The cat’s in the Window.

I will go for my walk soon. Walking in the city warms me up!

Gardening too.

  1. Predators. The cat may be subject to predators at night. I lost a beloved cat to a coyote before I knew that they had moved down into our little town from the parklands above. I won’t let my new cats out first thing in the morning either — some predators prowl at dawn and dusk.

  2. Yes, you just disappeared into thin air and I was cursing WP- which I find myself doing more and more so I’m glad I saw this one just as it popped up! The reader feature has been dropping blogs for some time. They are there, I read them and then later simply gone from the list. If it wasn’t free I would not stay here, but there is the realization that you get what you pay for and I am not taking a change on missing out on this blog in any way 🙂

  3. I was traveling, too. I save your blogs for when I have downtime. I didn’t take a laptop on my trip, and I prefer to do my reading on a larger screen. Fear not. I don’t miss a post!

I looked for yesterday’s post, too. At least it’s in your drafts folder.

  4. Last week when we were in Nimbin I had a chat with an artist at a gallery (notable ‘cos it’s not something I get to do day-to-day)… and we got round to talking about Melbourne, and the fabulous Veg Out Community Gardens in St Kilda… which prompts me to mention it to you, if you have some free time to explore. Lots of other cool stuff in St Kilda too.

  5. Yes your mystery blog was not found when I went to read further. It sounds like a lovely time to walk when the streets are just waking up. I’m sure the farmy misses you, but it’s good to get out and about. Enjoy!

  6. Cats are teratorial and (in particular) patrol their territory and hunt more at nght. They do fight at night, get attacked by larger predators and run over by cars. Your barn cats live a much more natural life in a safer space. Their territory is better defined. In towns, I am inclined to exercise a cat curfew and they live longer because of it.
I had a Siamese in America, who would try to open my eyes, when the sun came up, so that I’d let him out. He was called Wolf, and he lived up to his name with squirrels and chipmunks!
Dog reminds me of the Old Dog, before Boo arrived on the Farmy.

    • Yes, the dog does remind me on Old Dog too, John’s Old Dog who stayed in the barn and Celi covered him with a blanket each night.

    • That’s funny. A cat opening your eyes!! And such a great name..

Old Dog – he was an interesting creature. Another rescue too – may be even the same kind of dog but white now that I think about it. Hmm.

Last night I locked my daughters cat in and she ran from window to window – peering out/ something was out there she wanted. Probably another cat!

      • Cats desperately want to go out at night but the get into so much trouble fighting (which is how they catch feline leukemia) or run over by cars. No doubt the outside cats taunt the inside cats 🤣

        • They probably do! As I get older I discover I like cats less and less. They are so aggressive.

Are there still lots of cats and cat ladies in Rome? The place was heaving with cats last time I was there.

          • I love cats – I like their independence.
I think there are still loads of cats in Rome, but I suspect there could be a program to neuter and spey them to keep the numbers down now.

              • Probably everywhere. They were used to keep the mice and rats under control.
In Spain people sold cats as rabbit during the civil war. I believe, afterwards, there was a legal requirement, that rabbit had to be sold with it’s ears intact, to prove what it was.

  7. Washer-dryer issues. I’ve had a few–forgetting to throw the wash into the dryer for the next dryer load or worse, digging out the clean wash to discover I forgot to turn it on. Not clean! Wasting the heat from the dryer. A pet peeve. I love the detail fur of your TimTam and KitKat. Quite extrordinary.

  8. Sometimes I have found myself throwing the laundry detergent pod in the dryer and the dryer sheet in the washer. (I know, not sustainable, trying to train my husband.) Anyway, I love your travel posts and I love the farmy, too. People are just distracted–summertime! I like to think we are spending more time away from screens. Right? Hope so!

    • But it is winter here in this hemisphere- after further exploration I found a clothesline out the back – that was a relief! I do hate using a dryer.

While I am away I have left John a big cardboard box of soap powder – easier for him to manage. ( he will use the home made soap but looks at me blankly if he has to make it).

  9. I had a washing machine incident recently, too – thought I’d put on a spin but it was a wash. The garment survived, changed in appearance but still intact!

  10. Popping in to say I very much enjoy your travel posts, thoughts and photos. It’s always interesting to me to hear about life in other parts of the world – I’ve never been to Australia or New Zealand.

  11. I love that the texture of the cat’s tongue is so similar to her fur! Talking of washing machines, does anyone have an opinion on the value of those detergent ‘sheets’ I’m seeing more and more often, to be used instead of powder or liquid or pods? I like that they come in a cardboard box instead of a great hunk of plastic (even if I have been refilling said hunk of plastic for the past 5 years, now), but I don’t know if they’re any good, and they’re not very cheap, either…

    • They will have less micro plastics than regular laundry liquid but I had trouble with them leaving a soapy residue on the clothes. I have got a big container of powder for John while I am away – it is in cardboard too.

I am still researching the sheets but I still go back to my grated soap. Let me know how your research goes!

  12. Hi Cecilia, for some reason I was unable to ‘like’ this post. My avatar didn’t show up, nor was there any reaction to my ‘clicking’ the star. Grrrr!!!
