Angels Doing Cartwheels

In the deep night my old filmmaker friend was chatting with me.

And here is the last line of our thread. I read it as I was drifting off to sleep.

……

“sleep angel; when you call someone angel they imagine having wings”.

…….

Isn’t that just the loveliest thing.

Things are settling again. There have been ups and downs.

I am still moving fast but wanted to stop for a remind you about angels.

The barn chicks.

Good morning.

Yesterday I was saying good bye to my Mother In Law ( for a few hours) and I looked past the car door I was holding for her and over my gardens and through the trees and imagined soaring right up into the tops of the branches.

I think I could do cartwheels today, I said.

Well, you just get on that, she said in her grumpy old ladies voice. Folding her traitorous body into the car seat. Wishing she could do cartwheels too, I suppose. So I did not mind.

Celi

(good morning, angel)

  1. I said a last farewell to a very dear friend & neighbor of 30 years yesterday so angels were much on my mind this weekend. I’m sure she has her wings by now.

  2. Beautiful C- I like the reminder that we can all look to the skies and dream about flight and freedom and ease, especially when life may be harder than we want it to be.

      • For many years, my wife and I made a point of visiting amusement parks especially for their roller coasters. We’ve had rides on some of the best, and the worst. As time went by, the rides became painful instead of fun. Sort of the way life can be at times. We have some great memories. But, we are sure it would not be a good idea to try them again. We get our kicks in other ways.

  3. You’re correct life is a roller coaster ride. You can close your eyes and miss the excitement, or open your eyes through up your arms and keep looking forward. Sometimes I even scream.

  4. In Spanish, they say, “Sueños con los angeles”, when someone goes to sleep – it means, Dream with the angels.

  5. Since I could never do cartwheels, even as a child, that would be quite a feat! I remember after my dad had a heart attack he asked the doctor if he would be able to fly. The doctor said that if he took it easy he should be able to fly in 6 months. My dad said, “That’s great because I couldn’t fly before.” I’m sure he’s flying with the angels now and making them laugh.

  6. I am currently talking myself out of trying a cartwheel, I fear it wouldn’t be pretty, possibly even traumatic! Your post reminds me of the song by Sarah McLaughlan, In the Arms of the Angels. I’ve also come to realize that most of the time, same old same old routine is not necessarily a bad thing.

  7. Cartwheels in the midst of impossible loads. You may be on to something there! Hope you managed to have some time to laugh and have fun today in between everything else you are managing.

  8. Why is it (it seems to me) that, no matter their age, the Meat Birds always look angry while the wee farm chicks appear so sweet and calm? Must be, as they’re able to stay so close to Momma Hen and the protection of her outspread wings, they’ve always felt secure?

Such a lovely thought and bless your friend for signing off that way❤️

  9. What a wonderful, long relationship you’ve had with your mother-in- law Celi! Definitely something to turn cartwheels about! 🙂

  10. Mortality is on my mind today. One friend has a mother who is no longer able to care for herself. Another just lost hers. My sister’s husband is in intensive care with a COPD crisis. We must treasure our elders, because the time is coming when they’re going to be collecting their own wings…
