The Good Ship Tima

Tima, the resident kunekune and I had our moments yesterday.

Gates have been going back up so I allowed her out into the field vege garden to clean up. There is still good food in there – she enjoys fossicking around. And seemed well pleased.

But while I was in Town she found a gate that had not been fixed and released herself to rummage about in the White Chicks pen. Breaking in there is not difficult for a big heavy pig who steams forth like an ocean liner and she managed to release a bunch of chickens at the same time.

It was a very calm breakout and once Tima had been sprung and ran as fast as she could back to her big field, (she knows when she is in trouble) they (the chickens) all hurried back into their pen.

One tried to take a short cut. Not quite ready for the pot yet, chicken.

Barn Chicks

The difference in size between the meat chicks and layers (they are the same age) is quite astounding. Thankfully.

This hen is getting her brood closer to the chicken hospital where I hope to catch this lot. I need them in the hen house for the winter. To date I have not been around often enough to corral them and the hawks are picking off the babies.

On the list that goes.

Calves

Looking good.

The rain clouds started to lazily gather yesterday evening and by morning – now – we have steady rain.

Much warmer though.

Good morning!

Have a lovely day.

Talk soon.

  1. Oh that Kunekune. The one, and only meeting I had with one was with a wild one. Huge, ugly, and terrifying. I am glad that Tima is a gentle soul and under your control.

  2. I love the word ‘fossicking’! Never heard it before. When I looked it up it I also learned that it is an ‘informal Australian’ verb. We have friends currently touring Australia in a rented caravan. They are part of a group of four couples – four vans – touring the shoreline of WA. Last we talked they were in Esperance. There was a great clip of the eight people singing ‘Happy Birthday’. Love the Australian accents! Although our friends say people are always commenting on their interesting ‘Canadian Accents’. Their pictures are sooooo beautiful! I’m glad you get yourself back home regularly. When one leaves such a beautiful part of the world – you need to have your way back.

  3. That Tima. She’s slowly taking on the mantle of the late beloved Sheila in terms of steaming forth and Doing Her Own Thing. Perhaps less ocean liner in profile and more tug boat, but still…
