The only way to Start is to Begin.

My writing is not going too well.

There are too many changes of location in my day. But I keep restarting. And I keep beginning.

Writing needs a rhythm and short stories written for a podcast are all about the words a writer does not use, so first I need to get all the words in the manuscript then edit, edit.

I write the stories for podcasts to load into substack – I was hoping for chronological order but my memory will not behave. It keeps sending me stories from all over this great life we all have.

Mr Flowers. As usual. On the back porch watching the cat’s food bowl closely.

This blog is easy to write – I write it sitting up in bed the moment I wake up. Sometimes I get the images ready through the night. But generally it is all done with a sleepy voice just after I wake up. I have a pretty solid routine.

The Farmy SoundScape Project

I created another Farmscape Sounds (does that name work) Farm Scape Sounds? video yesterday but literally nothing happened (this was the POV – above) for 30 minutes all I saw was the occasional ear flap and all the microphone picked up was wind.

So I deleted it.

I am going to run another one this evening. Bedtime could be fun to watch (and hear) I think. I will make sure to be back on the farm before dark to capture that one.

The Farm SoundScape (better?) will go out on Wednesdays – on SubStack.

And of course I will put a few favourites up onto utube for you. Though I would love you to join me on SubStack too.

Nanny Boo - blue heeler with kitten

Nanny Boo and one of his kittens.

About ten years ago I think.

Have a lovely Sunday/Monday!

  1. Ah Marcel. I started following the kitchens garden just the same time as Marcel arrived. I had his smiley face as my screen saver for ages!

  2. Boo with the kitten is adorable. You are amazing at getting any writing done with your crazy schedule. It will come together when it’s supposed to.

  3. I remember Boo’s years as a Nanny. Such a dear, tender-hearted dog. We had one too, Gentle Bob, who watched over & cared for all the little ones, kittens, baby chickens & geese, & played with our goat kid, Zero. They are good shepherds.

  4. You got that right. Hanging in my office is the famous quote from Alice in Wonderland where Alice asks the cat which way she ought to go.

  5. Reflection is good for the soul. Note your track record, and begin with that. I’ve been reading from my overstuffed files, to recall just how much I have done, in my not-yet-terminated life.
Mr. Flowers continues to be my favorite of your animals.
