Mr Flowers, our most beautiful and quite old peacock, loses his feathers in the late summer and has now commenced to grow back his long long tail. Every year this happens. His feathers are the brightness in our winter. Peacocks are such ethereal creatures.

He is such a beautiful bird.

And he is a good weight going into the winter. Peacocks don’t fly as much as swoop into the ceiling of the barn and his exit from the old barn is stunning. We need to catch that on video!
TonTon
TonTon is slimmer but still looking good. He is old. Eats well. Though he is frequently quite confused and needs some help with the steps sometimes, he spends a lot of his days laying about under the trees watching the world go by.

The Calves

The calves have responded well to their training and will come when called now. Their pasture is still lush so they are shiny and well fed too.
The Barn
The calves are sleeping in the back pens with doors to the concrete pad and the field (If you are a subscriber to my SubStack channel you would have seen this in last nights 10 minute SoundScape).

Tima and Wai are sleeping together in the sunroom with their door open to total freedom. And Jude and FreeBee are in the center bedroom with doors open to their acre. They spend a lot of time grazing the clover too – plus they love eating young thistles!

Do you see FreeBees nose?

So sweet.
Substack
Your podcast is ready on Letters to my Mother at SubStack. Tips and Tricks for a Sustainable Home. I think that much of the work in designing our own environmentally sustainable lifestyles comes from changing how we think about the whole thing. Don’t take on too much. Be specific. Be kind to yourself and the planet. And lead by example.
Have a listen and let me know what you think!
The 10 minute SoundScape is so easy and fun that I am offering one a day (at least 5 a week), to my Paid $5 Subscribers every evening at 5 pm unless life gets in the way and you know is how that is, (you are going to love this evenings recording). (And of course I will send one to my regular readers at least once a week – I don’t want you missing out).
It will follow the seasons so I am excited too!
The podcast is still Free for all – you can subscribe for free while you check it out; comment and share. Sharing makes a huge impact. And I thank you!
Have a lovely day!
We have abundant sun and just a little breeze for drying the washing. High of 58f today, 14c – lovely!
How about you?

I love the nose!
…and that’s beautiful light in the top picture, which looks like Quacker is following Mr. Flowers, with a cat at the rear.
Yes I liked that too – pity the cat is not bright red to draw our eye all the way back there – see – I remember your lessons.
Ha ha, well you’ve got the trail going back across the picture and ginger is a very good second best 😉
Thanks for the update on them. I have no doubt that I’ll be described as living life much like Ton ton in my later years and happy to do so
Having a nice sleep in the autumnal sunshine sounds pretty good to me!
All looks well on the Farmy! So wonderful! xoxo
Yes! Puddling along.
I did not realise that peacocks can live up to 30 years! Wow. Can I ask how old Ton Ton is, I have been following you for a good few years now and remember Old Dog and you getting Boo as a pup! Time flies when you’re a farmer!
It does. Peacocks live really long time – they have big hearts. Um – hmm – how old is Ton? The blog started in 2011 and I already had him so maybe 13, 14 maybe?
Oh bless him, he’s lovely, as is Boo of course!
Mr Flowers! One ofmy favourite characters! Having said that so are the hogs…oh and…..them all!
Hard to choose sometimes!

Are these your thoughts?
😉 I just love you C!
I think TonTon has the right idea: sitting underneath a tree watching the world go by. I think in these fractious days, we all need time like that to just tune out everything that we personally can’t do anything about (no matter how horrific or worrisome) and just soak in all the things that are right about our own time and space.
Always lovely to see the new tail coming in on this handsome boy!
It is a sign of good health!
