Cats in Pictures

Cats effortlessly captivate the camera. With their curves and independence. It is the independence that attracts us. Maybe?

Vandal

Ginger cat. Orange cat. Marmalade cat. Licking paw.

These two are the last cats that we will have here on the farm. I want to encourage native birds not predator cats.

These two cats are old now. But still healthy and hunting.

Have you noticed that if you put a picture of a kitten up on a social media platform it will garner twice as many likes as anything else. That could be interpreted as a pathetic comment on society in general but I prefer to think that we are drawn to the curves of a cat. Their slight stand-offishness. Cats are a respite. A little softness. A break. From all the tough stuff. Do you think?

Stacked firewood

I am trying to get as much wood as possible into the wood shed (known as the Wendy House) for the winter ahead but with Our John’s mobility deteriorating it is proving quite the mission.

I love stacking wood. But I don’t love collecting and sawing the logs up. John’s friend has a forest and they work on keeping it tidy and free of fallen branches and dead wood which are fire hazards. It is our supply of firewood. But the men are getting old and tired. And I am getting tired of asking.

I am going to have to learn how to use a chainsaw.

My first husband once famously said to a friend – I would never lend out my wife or my chainsaw. That comment put me off chainsaws.

Big Jude in Bed

Mature Berkshire hog in deep straw with sunshine

Honestly it does not get any better than this. A big pig in a big deep bed of fresh straw in a big old barn with the doors open to the sunshine. Bliss.

Good morning. The weather had been stunning these last few days. So much sunshine.

Look at this forecast:

Just beautiful.

It is Monday morning here, another week begins to unfold. I wonder what it holds.

Have a lovely day.

  1. There is something about cats. We always had cats until we moved to Spain. Then my husband’s dream of having a dog finally came true. Now we have two. They hate cats. We will never have cats again, I’m afraid. I love the picture of Big Jude in Bed!

  2. What lovely sunny pictures. Glad you are having some sunshine before the cold weather rocks up. Jude looks so contented in that sunny warm bed and Quackers has adapted so well! Be careful with a chain saw please!

  3. Oh, you do have nice daytime weather. We are about 15 degrees cooler but our rain is ending. Quaker in her personal pond…she has been very photogenic lately, sneaking into many of your shots.

  4. Beautiful pictures…..and yes I LOVE cats…and they love me:). As for kittens – I can’t think of anything better. I have certainly had my time of cutting wood and keeping wood burners going in my studios but at the moment I am in my flat/studio in London which is actually very easy to heat….

  5. A cat is sleek and moves with an ease that is soothing. We look at the Mona Lisa and contemplate what she is thinking. Her hands are curved just so, her eyes… A cat is very much like her. We look into their large eyes and try to see what they are thinking.

Now a dog, most of the time, you can tell what they are thinking. There is no mystery to our pups. Human nature is to figure out a mystery.

    Happy Monday.

  6. I have to say, I much prefer dogs though there are a lot of feral cats around here and they do help with the rodent population but I really hate what they do to the birds. I would never be mean to a cat but I will never encourage them to take up residence. As a kid I recall seeing our neighbor’s cat through their kitchen window as he meandered about on the counter. I thought that was really gross.

  7. I love cats, we lost our 2 cats a few years ago and didn’t bother with anymore but my goodness the rats and mice soon started in the feed store! Enter 2 female farm kittens who thankfully got the place in order pronto.

    • Put cats can’t get into the feed store so we have that problem too. We have an old freezer that just gave up the ghost this summer and I hope to get someone to install it into the feed shed. No mouse will get in there! Stand by!

  8. Cats are a beloved and important part of many stores. They can provide a calming and comforting presence for customers, and can even help keep pests at bay. Additionally, many people simply enjoy having cats around, and they can serve as beloved mascots for a business. Overall, whether it’s a bookstore, cafe, or other type of store, cats can add a unique and endearing touch to the atmosphere.
