Black Cat.

Black Cats are much maligned in our fairy tale books. But what will really happen if a black cat crosses my path? Not much I imagine.

I have occasionally seen a black cat here. But only out of the corner of my eye. He is not my cat. He looks very well fed (probably on all my birds). Yesterday I stepped out onto my path to see this big black cat, with large startled yellow eyes crouched and staring straight at me. We examined each other for a long intense moment. Then the mini panther took off shooting across in front of me – crossing my path!!

One day he might stalk straight through one of the Farmy SoundScapes when I am not there. Then we can get a better look.

My camera caught the notion of him:

You can just see him disappear under the green truck after our first real meeting. Which reminds me – I must send a pic of the green truck to Wendy, she is making us Christmas Cards over at Zazzle.

The Farmy Swag is at Zazzle. Think the Holidays that include Christmas.

Stand by for that announcement.

How much would you pay for a Christmas Card.

Free range broilers

The free range broilers are doing so well. Just a couple of weeks to go.

I bought TonTon a new cushion – thank you so much to his anonymous Sponsor! He is an old dog and is loving the cushiony softness under his old bones.

Naturally Boo takes the new dog bed whenever it is free. (Maybe Boo needs a Christmas present, too). Ton just patiently waits for Boo to move then zooms back into place.

I have more firewood to stack first thing this morning before I get back to the pruning (which I barely started yesterday).

Firewood in wood shed with blue splitter attached to John Deere tractor

This old building used to be a garage for a small car. Abandoned 50 or so years ago. It has an asbestos shingle roof (the barn does too) so we are careful not around it. My brother works in asbestos clean-up in NZ and says that the best thing to do is let it sit without interference. Environmentally, it will never break down, so to avoid the dust when compromised it is best to leave the asbestos in place. Unless one has a LOT of money to pay for responsible removal which will simply move the asbestos from one place to another.

So it sits where I can see it. I know it cannot cause harm here.

So this is our wood shed. For firewood. I call it The Wendy House and when I have finished stacking all the firewood it will be beautiful! I love stacking firewood.

  1. Black cats are scary in dark, when u going back from work and you cant see them and, i often almost stumbled into bushes’ because my black cat. He is such scare sometimes , but i still love him

  2. Poor Ton Ton – I bet he wouldnt have let Boo steal his bed in the old days. I’m surprised they don’t bark at the robot vaccum!
I have had several black cats in the past, without issue, but I remember a story about my grandfather tripping over their black cat, at the top of the stairs (during the war) and he fell to the bottom, ending up in hospital!

  3. When I was a child we had a black Persian that came to our home in the winter and was gone all summer. She had beautiful green eyes. My mom called her Mysty the mysterious cat because of how she only lived in our house in the winter!

Black cats have a variety of symbolic meanings around the world. In some cultures, they are seen as symbols of good luck and prosperity, while in others they are associated with witchcraft and bad luck. In ancient Egypt, black cats were considered sacred and were worshiped as the embodiment of the goddess Bastet.

  4. I think Tima wants to be the next in line for a cushion…:) Years ago, in my first owned home, we used a wood stove to heat the house. I learned to stack firewood as a child and then did my share for the wood stove that was my own. There is something very satisfying about stacking a neat and tidy wood pile

  5. I’ve had 2 black cats. One was a lap lounger and the other one watched the birds from the window but never ventured out. They both had very expressive faces and eyes and we would have long chats about our day. Lovely.

  6. We have had three black cats in our lives and they were all lovely. Although they did love my husband more than me. He said it was because I didn’t sit still long enough for them to snuggle. I love the new doggie bed and watching them clean the house was fun! Did you nme the robot cleaner?

  7. Those donut beds are very popular with our dogs as well. And since we only have one, they do trade back and forth. I think you need a second one.

Stacked firewood, an organized pantry or closet, a made bed…they are all comforting signs of organization. Somehow my brain is quieter when things aren’t a mess. I only wish it was so easy with the rest of the world.

  8. I’ve got a black cat with green eyes sleeping right next to me on the table as I write this. I caught Brat as he was going do jump down an 18 inch high curb into a very busy street. He was well fed and not feral, so someone evidently let him out. I turned him loose later in the day away from the street and told him to go home. He was out at the curb again two days later and I managed to grab him before he jumped down that curb (it was so high because it’s on a fairly steep hill to prevent vehicles jumping it and crashing into the apartment buildings – which I saw happen anyway, the vehicle was stopped by a large evergreen bush). I decided that there was o point turning him loose again as whoever had him wasn’t going to keep him in. I went around putting notes on apartment house doors and in mailboxes but got no response so I kept him. He’s got a line of a few white hairs on his neck (his lace jabot) and a white cummerbund on his tummy with a very few odd white hairs sticking up here and there over his body. We’ve been together 2 years now and he’s very affectionate and good company. The only downside is not being able to see him in the dark but he’s gotten better about staying out of the way. You can’t see black dogs in the dark and i’ve tripped over them too – we had a couple over the years. Brat likes to sit at the window and watch the birds, squirrels, deer and cats go through the back yard. One of the squirrels comes to visit, sitting on the roof or the closes tree branch and the two of them stare at each other swishing their tails.
