Over-confidence and Big Hogs

Drama in the barn. Come see!

Yesterday (feeling a little overconfident about the safety of my IPhone ) I attached my IPhone camera – using my twirly whirly tripod – to a gate (out of reach – I thought) to film the big pigs coming in for an afternoon nap. I am so enjoying bringing you 10 minutes of unedited sounds and sights on the farm.

Big Jude, mature Berkshire hog outside old barn.

I always position the camera (my IPhone) then walk away so the animals and birds behave naturally.

🤭Then this happened!

Go here! to see why I am off to the phone shop this morning to get my screen fixed! (This IPhone is really very sturdy! I have had IPhones for years so was able to upgrade (for the new camera features) with very little additional cost; I have a Pelican phone-case to protect my investment! 🙊 I think I am going to send this link to the Pelican People. The case definitely saved my phone from Jude’s rough handling). He has very sharp teeth.

Watch This!

Ten minutes of filming became two minutes when Jude decided that was quite enough fooling about with cameras in the barn.

Finding my phone (the tripod is still missing) was literally like finding a needle in this (see below) haystack.

Hogs sleeping in deep straw in old barn.

So, this morning, I am off to the phone shop to talk about getting my screen fixed. Don’t forget that any cracks in the screen protector compromises the integrity of protection. So get those cracks fixed. My screen is insured because it is a farm phone. 🤭 plus with my inclement internet I cannot publish without using data from my phone.

Free Range White Chickens

The white chickens are ranging far and wide.

Free range, broiler, Chickens, and autumn leaves

But the moment they see me, they come running. All the way to the back steps. Or all the way to their house. Depending on where I pop up.

Have a gorgeous day!

PS Thank you so much to all of you who joined me over at SubStack for our Free Farmy SoundScape Week! We raised enough from new subscribers to purchase a couple of heavy winter blankets for the rescue pigs. Yay! Please continue to share! 🛵 and even if you cannot upgrade (I totally get that, being a frugal soul myself) I LOVE you for your support and confidence.

The upgrade means I send you a ten minute clip five days a week. And as you saw – anything can happen.

I will offer another Free week during the holidays!

Stand by for this weekends 🦋 Sustainable Sunday Podcast when I travel through my past to find lessons to apply to the future. Both entertaining and empowering and sustainable. And storytelling for all.

Laterz!

  1. OMG – that’s behaviour worthy of Tima! Your poor phone. I’m so glad you have insurance.
Those chicken look like they are having a fantastic time.

  2. Hilarious Jude. Healthy white chickens and beautiful autumn tree( one of my favourite things). We have had some fairly high winds over the last couple of days so most trees suddenly looking bereft.

  3. OMG! That Jude is hilarious. She was having none of that invasion of privacy stuff!! I hope the phone gets fixed OK. Like it or not, we need our phones. xo

  4. Pigs are smart. He wasn’t going to make it easy for you. “I am not entertainment, Miss C. I refuse CeliTV monitoring”. And to make his point, he confiscated the phone/camera. Thank heavens he didn’t step on it. That really would have been the end.
