The Stage Called Sky

Mauve is not my favorite colour but what colour would best describe this sunset.

I would love to have taken you all out to sit in the field with Boo and Tima and me and a glass of wine and watch this evening show.

Sunset

As soon as my dead cat arrives I will. ( My homemade ones are OK but too much wind is getting through) so as soon as my Dead Cat arrives, and I adapt it for my phone, I will be able to film sunsets like this and publish them in my TKG Take Ten series on SubStack.

Then you can watch with me.

Deadcat:

‘A microphone cover that is furry and is an optional windscreen, called a windjammer or simply a DeadCat. Dead cats are designed for use outdoors, providing better protection from both wind noise and plosive sounds while remaining acoustically transparent’.

Sunset

Thank you Aunty Google. That name (dead cat) always amuses me.

Sunset turns blue

Little white chook is still hanging in there: eats and drinks but is still far from well so I still have not moved her in with the big flock. Though I will begin cleaning this whole area up today.

And give her fresh bedding.

Chickens

All this old straw – heavy with chicken manure will go around the fruit trees.

The sun has come out which makes everything lovely. And I must take advantage of the warm and keep working outdoors.

Though these temps feel unseasonably warm.

Weather

The plants in the glasshouse will love the light!

The sunset began like this: 5 minutes before it picked up the mauve range that you see above. And I thought this was beautiful.

Sunset

Until the light stepped out onto the Stage called Sky and something extraordinary happened.

Have a lovely day.

Lots to do!

Take care and talk soon.

Celi

Good morning. The SubStack Farmy soundscape series is becoming quite popular and has been renamed TKG TAKE TEN. The clips come out at 5pm Central every week day, are exactly 10 minutes long and are a whole new way of experiencing the Farmy. Sign up and upgrade if you would like these snippets of farm life delivered to your inbox. I play mine every morning while I write my list for the day. These clips every day are helping my organization a lot!

Wednesday’s are often Free. All the TKG TAKE TEN are always kid friendly. And ring a small bell deep in our beings – that part of us that longs for the land and the skies and the sounds of Rangi and Papa singing to each other.

Rangi and Papa is a creation legend of the Māori peoples of New Zealand – we all learned these stories at school and on the marae.

Here is yesterday’s TKG TAKE TEN. (You know TKG is short for The Kitchens Garden, right?).

How did it get to be Thursday already!

Love ya

  1. Dead cat! You must be joking. I was a bit concerned at first. But then I never got used to a part of the computer called a mouse. The sky is such a lovely colour. Perhaps lavender or maybe heliotrope. I’m glad we have so many names for colours. Hang in their little white chicken. xo

  2. You have gorgeous skyscapes in all directions at all hours. This one is glorious. I love mauve! I’m wrapped in my mauve shawl right now. Yes, Dead Cat clutched me at first too. And little wounded chicken, bless her heart. I hope she’s able to get into some sunny healing & basking patches.

  3. I’ve seen them labelled ‘sound kittens’ here. Maybe a little less macabre? I see heliotrope is already suggested, but how about amethyst, lilac, lavender, orchid, heather, periwinkle, violet, tyrian… I know, too many options. I would have loved a front row seat for that sunset. I appreciate the gaudy ones, we get so many here.

  4. Is it me or are all sunsets in every state becoming amazingly breathtaking ? Here in Colorado people are posting sunrises and sunsets that seem beyond…. Colors and shapes and changes … 😍

  5. WOW, this is just a spectacular shot Celi, and how wonderfully 3-dimensional are these clouds, hey?!?
(For the full effect, I tilted the phone for ‘landscape’ and then turned it upside down… (!)
