Pig Sitting on a Dog Bed

And I laugh at her every time!

Kunekune pig on dog bed

Look at your little feets hanging over the edge, I say to her.

The dawn came in strong and clear today which means it was able to get up and video it for this afternoon’s Take Ten.

Sunrise over empty fields

Ten minutes watching the sun rise.

This shot was taken from the same spot but shooting West.

Old wooden Midwest barn through trees

Looking through the PawPaw Patch. The PawPaw trees travel and are inching out from the North side of the house and into the lawn as the seeds from dropped fruit take hold. I encourage this of course creating barriers around the little trees so Him Indoors (otherwise known as The Blind Mower) does not run them over. Hopefully his first hospital stay at the end of this month will help with that. Though the no-mow signs will remain as I encourage my PawPaw Patch out into the sun.

The last White Chicken has succumbed to her injuries. But she was safe and warm and well fed for her last days. Which is all we can ask for, really. When an animal (or bird) is ready to die I let them go gently. We know when it is time.

Rocking chair wooden rocking chair with colorful cushions on porch

And there is no time for sitting in the rocking chair with Kate’s cushion behind my back. We must push on.

Good friends, Peacock, and duck

One step at a time these two remind me.

Step. Step. Peck. (My family motto).

Now I am going to listen to yesterday’s TKG TAKE TEN and write today’s list. I find ten minutes is the perfect amount of time to organize my day with the sounds of the farm as a soundtrack.

Though the cows were noisy yesterday! I hope one of them is not coming into heat. They often yell a lot at that time of the month!

Have a gorgeous day!

  1. I am laughing out loud. The Blind Mower!!! OMG. That is so funny. I am a blind everything so I am laughing WITH the Blind Mower, not AT the Blind Mower. I am also laughing even out-loud-er at Step Step Peck being your family motto. Our is: “Downward and backward.” (Ironically, of course…we just love poking fun at the stiff-upper-lipness of “upward and onward.” Sending love, laughter, etc.

  2. Tima is always good for a laugh and a smile! The names are growing for the local farmer as he approaches all of the needed fixes to an aging body. Walking/standing and seeing are two major needs that I hope are corrected easily. Thank you for the update on the white chicken. I almost asked on last nights TKG Take Ten but something told me of the probable outcome as you hadn’t mentioned much…

  3. Yes, Blind Mowers indeed. one of the neighbors here came this spring and mowed the lawn – as well as the flower beds. There was a new mower on order but hadn’t come yet and the neighbor just up and decided he didn’t like the longer grass. Then he got snippy when he wasn’t praised and fawned over for doing something no one asked him to do. Fortunately he did do it again. There were no flowers this spring because of him.
I’ve never had a pawpaw and have been looking for someone here that has a tree.

  4. Oh! The cushie for your tushie is still in use! How lovely… I too have a Blind Mower, but he’s not greatly in favour of anything that’s not grass unless you can eat it, or it’s good for the dog or the chooks. Which is how the big clump of bladey grass survives, and the passionfruit, and the comfrey clump. I have to defend the rest in person…
