I have had enough of this big beautiful poopy peacock hanging out on the West verandah, dropping his big wet peacock droppings. And Him Indoors tromping it inside on the shoes he refuses to take off before walking over my clean floors.
Mr Flowers. My beautiful peaceful peacock.

So I am training him to the East porch.
His food is front and center in the window. Can you see?
So I just open the window and pour a little into a bowl on the table directly outside the window. He likes looking at himself in the window so all is well.

However now he is training ME! He taps with his beak on the window (trying to eat the seeds he sees in the jug through the window I bet) and every time he taps – I open the window ever so gently and pour a little in his bowl.

So now he taps. Regardless! I love it. We are doing well with our mutual training.
His tail is coming in beautifully this winter.
Have a lovely day. Happy Holidays.
Don’t forget to subscribe to my Letter from the Kitchens Garden Farm for the weekday TKG Take Ten and the weekend Letter. It’s free – though you can choose to upgrade to paid anytime – no worries. Maybe after the holidays. God knows we don’t need one more thing to do this week!
Take care. Talk soon.

Is he not just the smartest and most beautiful boy! You have learned very quickly as well- nice job! Have a lovely weekend and Merry Christmas!
I am absolutely a fast learner!
An entire post about Mr Flowers, the best. Pity you can’t train John so well!Very happy holiday to you, hope you are not TOO exhausted by the end of it(vain hope)! 😊
Yes indeed. Though generally I don’t get physically tired. I am the ever-ready battery!
I LOVE it that Mr. Flowers is training you!!! That certainly happens! One of my outdoor cats, or porch cats really, has taken to jumping up and down rather frantically and scratching on the large picture window where we drink coffee in the morning. Of course she wants to come in and hang out with us for awhile. I was able to ignore it at first, but then it began driving me crazy, so I’ve been trained to let her in when she does it. Another of the porch cats stands on her hind legs and looks pleadingly in at us. Then she very gently paws at the window looking in even more pleadingly. So, I’ve also been trained by her to get up and let her in for a little while to hang out with us as we drink coffee. Of course Dolly the dog gets to come in for a while too. So much for humans training their animals!!! They absolutely end up training us sometimes too!!! 🙂
Yes ! Oh i love your cats! But it goes to show that we have no input at all – we are being MANAGED!
Sounds like you have some great pets! Or is the “p” word inappropriate?
Mr Flowers is definitely a pet!! Thank you!
Hilarious! If he talks to Tima, they’ll plot to get in and sleep by the fire.
Life as we know it! Gone.
I love that he taps for his food. my cat gently taps her paw on my face to wake me up each morning to give her breakfast
I love that your cat does that! I can just see it! and feel it.
I’m so glad you are developing a give-and-take rapport. Bird poop is slippery and gets in the crevices of my shoes. They get diarrhea when I upset them, so I’m being trained, too.
Yes – Go Slow!! Birds are just as manipulative as children.
They are instinctive in that they do what feels right. It’s our interpretation that they are manipulating, I believe. I don’t have children so can’t claim to know, but I suspect children learn to gauge adults and know what will get desired reactions.
Well, 2 of you are brilliant fast learners. The Other One (HI) needs a rough coco mat & an old timey boot scraper. My SIL had a cute iron Dachshund scrape thing across its back by the back door. Unless, alas, you already have those, which get ignored by Mr. Bigfoot……
As you have suspected – I have the mats – he just walks over them. Because this was his home before I came – 15 some years ago! – well – he has rights!!
If Mr Feathers can learn so should John!!
Make John scrub the floor!!
Like that’s going to happen!!! Love Love to you Carol!
I love that peacock! I love that he was able to train you so well. xo
He and I have an understanding!!!
If all things could be so easily trained. 😂
Never a truer word spoke!
I suppose Mr Flowers cannot display his wisdom to Him Indoors with a tap here and another there . . . I guess not . . . hugs to all . . .
Hugs to all!!
I had a ‘John’ like that. When I asked why he wore his boots in the house he claimed they weren’t dirty! Huh, apparently he lightly floated over all the dirt outside.
Shit did not stick to him either! Bless him. c
Or rather did not stick to his shoes. I think a lot of it is that John lived in this house for years before I arrived – so new rules do not apply.
Of course it did not stick to him (or his shoes), it wasn’t he who dirtied the floors! I lived in this house long before him so apparently old rules don’t apply either!
!! I remember that now!! Ah well. He had fun while has knocking around! That is the main thing – right. One day I am coming your way and we will have a wine and talk and talk and talk. I will bring Tima!
We feed 2 feral cats and in the winter when food is scarce we feed the deer. Had to train the deer last year to come to the front of the house and the cats to the back. At first the deer were afraid of the cats and then they started to get a little aggressive. Haven’t started to feed the deer yet this winter as there is still food available but I expect all will go well as they remember the routine and look in the glass doors at the front. We don’t have the poop problem. LOL
That is so sweet. How the deer and the cats don’t mix! Love that you are minding your wild life. They will threatened as the climate changes. We will need to shepherd them through this. Do you put out water as well? Or do you have plenty. – we certainly have plenty of water here.
Last year I put water out for the cats, of course it would freeze. Now the cats come inside to eat (as long as the door is open) and a dish of water is always available. I think the deer would be okay but it is a good idea. I will try putting out a bucket of water and see if they use it.
What a fabulous post! So lucky to have a peacock too
The creatures we love always train us… I remember an earlier version of myself, suffering from the delusion that I would not let the dog sleep on my bed. Now, I’m lucky if the dog lets me on there too when it’s time to sleep.
