Oh. Gods. The Relief. When you can say that to yourself.
Our Day is Finished.
When I say this to the dogs, and they know that they and I are done for the day. Animals are fed. Animal beds are deep and dry. Animals waters are flipped over so they are not full of frozen ice in the morning thereby unrefillable. .My patients are fed, data collected and tucked in for the day. I have brought enough firewood in for the night. Plus enough kindling in case I have to start the fires again in the morning.
I sink down into the couch seat, and I just keep on sinking until I am in there. Lost in the cushions.

BooBoo is staring at me. Looking deep into my eyes with his black soulful ones. He is sitting. On the mat. We both feel the warmth from the fire. He lifts his front feet one after the other. Leaning further in to fill me with his melancholy eyes.
I love these dogs.
Good boy. I say.
He looks across at TonTon, a spur of communication. TonTon hauls his old exhausted self up off the mat and walks across the floor to the kitchen then subsides next to his empty food bowl.
Boo looks at Ton then looks back at me.
Shit. I say.
Boo nods solemnly.
Ton sighs from beside his bowl in the kitchen. A sigh that Ton has perfected over the years.
I forgot to feed you – didn’t I.
Boo nods again. I sigh too – as only a tired farmer can sigh- expletive and all. I haul my own exhausted self up out of the delicious cushions. Boo leads me to my boots parked for the night dripping from thawing snow into a cardboard box just inside the door, (the dog food is stored in the outside fridge). I step into my boots. Pick up a scoop. I grab my coat. Both dogs helpfully nudge their food bowls forwards as they wait.

This awful shiney glistening deadly ice.

Someone does not care about the conditions in the least. Having Four feet are a definite advantage on ice.
Chores are done for the morning. Time to take the MiL to her doctors appointment.
Have a lovely day.

Do you have ice cleats for your boots? I have the style that simply sit in the arch of the boot – they’re attached to thick elastic – and you just slide them around to the top of your boot if you’re not on ice. Those things are a game changer in the winter.
Oh yes! You have reminded me. I will look them out. Hopefully it gets warmer soon.
What polite dogs!
I love the video of Tima – she’s not polite, but she very funny!
She is funny!! Bless her.
Is someone patting your back, lovingly. Good girl, well done. We love you.
Cheers Virginia
No. To be fair i am not sure anyone notices. But the farming is my Thing so I don’t need any patting really. I am doing what I love.
That picture looks like an ice river flooding the farm yard. Boo and Ton are so patient. In a bright spot, even though you had to get up, at least it was only to the porch.
Yes! It was not far. Boo’s face when he is waiting for his dinner is priceless. Especially when he suspects I might sit down before he is fed!! 😂
I am exhausted just reading about your chores. For mr, I know my day is done when the garden is watered for the onset of sun in the morning, the house tidied and my bed looks so attractive waiting for me.
An attractive waiting before evening is such a joy! I will remember this and make my bed in the morning!! I have a free day tomorrow!
Good plan Celi.
I hope your tired bones let you disappear into a good sleep tonight. Rest well.
Tonight – I will sleep the sleep. Hope you do too!
Isn’t that last sigh of the day the most heartfelt? When everyone is taken care of, the food is eaten and dishes done and you can sit and contemplate the joy of crawling into your unbelievably comfie bed. Even as a poor sleeper I do love my bed.
Me too. I love my bed!!
NO FALLING after 10 years of age. Be so careful because a fall can change your plans. I did Massage Therapy for 30 years and falling was a huge interloper. So many parts to bang up and rehab is long. I know you are careful. Just a gentle reminder.☮️💜
Every time I skid on the ice I am reminded of this. Hopefully a thaw comes soon
That ice looks scary! You are always so busy .. Take care
