The Weekend – Oh My!!

And so in the afternoon after gathering up the kids and stuffing them in the back of the car. We drove through the hills and down into Los Angeles to Disneyland.

The snow salting the mountain tops.

The sunset was magnificent.

Disneyland was delightful because the hotel has a pool and one kid turned up sick on the one day we had booked at Disney. So I stayed back with her.

The Disneyland Hotel is great by the way and incredibly well run.

The child made a miraculous recovery when I suggested she go swimming.

In the afternoon we all went back in to the park for a few hours and a couple of excellent rides. One underwater cruise thingy (that will be on TKG TAKE10 this week) and a fantastic Star Wars thing where they stuffed a hundred people in a simulator, belted us in firmly and sent us to war and we all screamed a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. Those hydraulics must be super strong to throw around that kind of weight – I swear I felt the g-force of take off.

I was fascinated by the stroller parks. So many babies! Hundreds of strollers all parked together like an unworldly gathering – probably sighing with relief and complaining to each other about aching wheels and creaky overused joints. And crumbs. I imagine crumbs are a source of irritation to a pram.

After dinner the ‘sick’ child went back into the park with her Dad for a grand old time and I took the little ones to the pool then fireworks then bedtime. No one lost an eye (even though I bought the small son a sword by mistake) and a good day was had by all.

We went to the natural history museum on the way home on Sunday (after more swimming) and the kids were quite (not) over come with excitement but my son and I were enthralled by the engineering and precision involved in putting a dinosaur skeleton back together with those beautifully designed metal supports.

I call this picture waiting on Dad and our brother.

Seeing a squirrel was quite the highlight of their day!

The kids have a day off school today (Monday) and there is homework to be done after we have undergone the battle of the phone. “Do you think you can just put that thing down for one minute!”

In between assignments I might bake more bread.

Have a lovely day!

The story. It’s a goodie. All story and nothing but story.

  1. The picture of the girls…they could be my granddaughters! Just what I would expect them to be doing 🙂 Such a totally different life these young people (lord, that makes me sound so old) are confronting, yet really behind it all not so different in many ways.

  2. Wow, so pleased the sick child made a miraculous recovery and that you all had such a good time. My kids constantly try to persuade their kids to put down their phones. They find it amusing that they would be delighted if they spent time watching tv instead, remembering that l used to continually moan about the time they used to spend watching “the box “! Funny old world,

  3. That sounds like a great weekend! Those simulators can be amazing. I remember a good “Back to the Future” one at Universal in the 90s. Fab snowy mountains and sunset too.

  4. I would probably be sick on many of those rides. Even the word G-force makes my tummy hurt. It sounds like you’re rolling with whatever situation you’re presented with: a lesson with kids and really anytime with anyone!

  5. Those snowy hills are so pretty. And I know just where that is! We have the San Gabriel Mountains due north of us, but the snow didn’t even last long enough for the clouds to part and give us a peek. I hope Anaheim was warm enough. It sure was a beautiful day.

  6. Exciting squirrel – haha. I recall being at Yellowstone amongst all the amazing natural wonders and seeing a little on on hands and knees entranced with a chipmunk.
