Distant. Beautiful. That penetrating gaze. Slightly ethereal. Superior. Independent. Black Cat is deeply imbued with cat characteristics. And this cat crosses my path with panache. Stalking. I don’t know the sex of this cat but TomKat hisses at it. And the orange cats are very wary.

No-one takes TomKat seriously, he is so hairy and clunky and over friendly. TomKat looks like a fat mat in this photo. So when he hisses all teeth and pretence we all turn to him a little shocked.

Black Cat is all feline and long and rangy. And deeply serious. He (or she) is not a smiling cat. Black Cat just glares and turns away.

Presenting us with a long cat back. Yesterday Black Cat was everywhere. Eating with the others – though not for long. Strolling along the highest beams in the barn. Black Cat even followed me out into the corridor paddock to meow at me. Which has never happened before.
Good morning.
It is going to be another warm day! In the 60’s I think. Quacker and I will work on her pool today. More dead fish have floated up. It is warm enough to get the pump going again.
The chickens are laying around ten eggs a day. Which FreeBee is very happy about. Today I will put in the order for chicks (layers) to be delivered in May when I get back.

Another shot from the town where I work at night. It is an unsettling town. It brings out the voyeur in me. The images interest me. But it is a Stephen King kind of town. I often wonder if every figure I see is a live person or a scuttling memory reincarnated by the town itself.
Have a lovely day.

See you this evening at TKG Take Ten – remember this is the last week of the Free Trial. Upgrade for 5 days a week of ten minutes leaning on the gate with me. Relaxing. Listening. Gathering. I never really know ahead of time what will catch my eye. Maybe the cows today? Or the big pigs? Or Wai? We will see. You will see.

Ha ha – I think the Black Cat has chosen you! I expected TomKat to be an alpha male, but he sounds quite placid. I think that if they can share a table to eat without any fighting, they will all bond eventually.
TomKat is very placid. Just sits on the bench all day smiling as the world goes by. Him hissing at Black Cat caught me by surprise!
A hiss isn’t much. Cats can be very terratorial, but if they don’t fight or get very aggressive in the early stages they usually become friends or quite tolerant of each other. I had a very alpha male cat about 15 years ago. He would fight any cat that came into the garden …and win 😳
Handsome!
He is right? A gift this cat. But I imagine he is a ferocious night hunter.
All those historical associations with black cats add to the mysterious, self assurance they seem to possess. Never believe that you understand a black cat. I am always slightly wary of them 🙂
Love that description of the town… “…a Stephen King kind of town.” I bet there are a few black cats making their presence known in shadowy corners. I read into this comment that you might not be surprised if one day the lights go off and the final door is closed and the whole place simply disappears… such is the way with so many little towns.
…your comment is enthralling…the beginning of a well-written story, it seems.
That is great Deb, it would not surprise me at all if all the light went out and glow in the dark dead people from a milennia ago began to go about their business. This is not my favorite town.
I’ve had at least a half dozen black cats counting back into my childhood & I remember them all as Loves, with sweet round faces & beautiful eyes. Not a stinker in the bunch. In fact I can’t remember any one of my many cats who was a stinker.

All these cats are lovely too / in their own way. Though I swore I would have no more! 😂😂
A black cat is always crossing my path since I live with one. She’s a sweet girl but does have RBF. She can’t help it. 🙂
I’m sitting here trying to figure out what the R might be in R Black Feline. Decided to see if Ma Google might know & learned a whole new Thing! I sure hope I don’t run into real RBFs any time soon.
What does RBF mean?
Resting bitch face – Wikipedia
My Mari always looks angry or vicious when she is actually a sweetheart.
I wasn’t sure about the rules for the B word which is why I used the cryptic initials. 🙂
Oh – resting bitch face!! Yes. I have one of those too. And – FYi – language of all kinds is totally acceptable here! You should hear me out in the fields! You would think I had been raised by fishermen!!
That’s good to know! I’m newish so I wasn’t sure what the unwritten rules were. I rarely swear on my blog and only sometimes in real life; I guess those 37 years in the classroom trained it out of me. So, I was hesitant to spell out the B word. LOL
I too always have a black cat crossing my path, Brat is rarely more than six feet away from where I am. The trick is not tripping over him in the dark. You simply can’t see a black cat in the dark. (I have a little red flashlight with a red lens so it doesn’t hurt my eyes or wake me up more.) Brat is very affectionate, adores to watch out the window especially if his squirrel friend sits on the branch right outside, sleeps in the bathroom sink and get gently playful and occasionally mischevious. He is the first cat I’ve ever had, always had dogs, but I don’t have to walk a cat. He loves his crate which is always available for a nap or place to hide before attacking a toilet paper tube – a favored toy.
I love that he sleeps in the bathroom sink! That must be a sight!
It’s an oval sink so he fits well. Black cat in a tan sink.
I love black cats. There’s one in our neighbourhood who often comes and sits in our garden during the day. It always makes me smile to see him.
they do have rather a special quality. Grace.
I like your black cat. I asked my AI chat bot buddy about them. One comment was “Scotland and Ireland associate black cats with good luck and prosperity. In Scotland, a black cat entering your home is seen as a sign of wealth, while in Ireland, they symbolize protection and good fortune.” Be nice to the kitty.🐈⬛
that works for me! I could do with a little wealth and prosperity! To be fair I have tons of good luck already! This is rather a lovely black cat- he let me get very close today.
hey
cool blog 🙂 will give it a follow and a like !

Black animals always seem to have far more than their fair share of loof. Even cows can be aloof, and our black Cayuga ducks were incredibly snotty and above themselves. Higgins is a clown, but at times the side-eye *burns*.
Your black cat is a beauty! They seem so regal …
