Way below freezing again this morning. And the winter fires were declared over and out – all finished – just last week after I climbed up onto the roof and put the anti bird nest hat on top of the chimney. A dangerous exercise if ever there was one but already the starlings were flying down the cold chimney and around the house looking for places to nest.
They want to nest in the top of chimney but they kept falling down into the cold fire box and cannot fly straight up so I let them out into the house with windows and doors open for an exit and the cats swishing their tails in anticipation. Every single spring they do this.
All the main heating has been off for a while so I am sitting writing to you in bed in the early morning wearing a hoodie and a hattie. Covered in hundred year old quilts. There is a picture for you.
But today I have help on the farm so I am at high speed. I think I will make a quiche for lunch. A silverbeet quiche by the looks of it!
There is kale in there as well. (Off screen). Yum.
And more baby tomato plants.
This glasshouse is not photogenic. 😂 I have pulled all the old tomatoes out. They were great over the winter. But once there are seedlings in there the baby plants get priority sunshine.
At least it is sunny. Cold but sunny. And windy today too. This is the North Porch. Too cold for this porch yet.
Yesterday’s TKG TAKE TEN was also windy and cold! But shows you the new herd of Two Hogs and Two Cows. And Mr Flowers and Quacker. It was cold yesterday too.
Two more sleeps then I go to visit the guy from this story.
And his search and rescue dog. LeRoy.
Leroy has promised me an interview and has also promised not to make me roll in the snow!

Oh, Leroy Snowdog is adorable! Look at that huge grin. Wish I could show Higgins some snow, I think I’d have a white greyhound instead of a black one!

Two steps forward – one step back!
We’ve got strong winds, thin sun and cold today. I saw a red-bellied woodpecker on the tree trunk that’s about six feet from the window, handsome bird with the brilliant red on the back of his head. Brat missed it as he was sleeping. The ground hog was out and about the other day crossing the parking lot of the autistic school behind us.
Happy Spring! I’m very ready for warmer weather to stay around longer.

You have a ground hog? I have never seen one in the wild. How big was it?
He has just come out of his winter den so he’s a bit underweight, maybe 7 to 8 pounds. short legs, thick body and brown fur. I’ve seen him before, but usually not out in the open like crossing the parking lot. More here – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog

There are probably quite a few where you live, you’ve just never seen them. They don’t make themselves obvious.
70s lately here but dropping by 20 degrees in a few days. It’s not cold compared to many places but we’ve gotten used to the sunshine. Hoping for happy and safe travels for you. Bon Voyage!
