See Ya! We are going up the mountain

Though I just heard a Canadian calling it ‘Going up the hill’. Yesterday we went into the hills to surf in the river.

Mountain Surfers here:

Hope that plays. It is pretty cool.

The other half of the family arrived yesterday and later this morning we are going up the mountains. But it is still early in the morning, in this tiny basement apartment, the grown ups are tip toeing about hoping the children will sleep just a little bit longer.

So today there will be driving. Gondolas. Cafes. Snow. Skis and jackets and hats and gloves and sticks. Lots of kids and chatter.

These kids were born with skis on their feet. So I am going to sit quietly in a cafe. And watch the world. And write. And take photos for you. No skiing for this surfer girl. I am presently helping build CeCe world in MindCraft so I must away and make good choices.

Naturally we are building a barn and there is wheat.

The Mum is in the kitchen blowing eggs for us. Just the way her Babi did.

Amidst great hilarity.

Later we will paint them.

Are you having a long weekend? What are you up to?

  1. We bought our egg dying kit every year, hard boiled & cooled a dozen eggs & swirled our dyes into boiling waters to dip & dye the eggs. Then we painted on them, placed them back in their carton & into the ice box. Then Easter morning there they were in our Easter basket nestled in the shiny green grass amidst gum drops, Hersey’s kisses, & a big coconut or strawberry cream dark chocolate covered egg, sent from our Aunt in Chicago with an assortment of pretty marzipan strawberry, lemon, orange, banana shaped fruits. I loved those & the chocolate egg best. But there were hard boiled eggs & deviled eggs & egg salad sandwiches for what seemed like days & days after. I still think of ordering one of those big old chocolate covered eggs & a box of marzipan fruits. I may just do that! Looks like you all up in Canada are going to eat lots of omelets & scrambled eggs.

  2. Writing in a mountain cafe sounds lovely…and warm! I am laughing over Minecraft and Cece world and the picture of the Switch! My grands are addicted to Minecraft and would spend hours building. Don’t know if you remember that one of my grands is also a Cecelia? I will have to tell her about Cece world with the barn. She may not remember the farmy animal picture book from years ago but I think her older sister does. BTW- your virtual barn is in much better shape than the real one back in Illinois- too bad you can’t literally transport it there. Wouldn’t John be amazed to see that pop up outside the window!

  3. That looks like so much fun…except the falling in that icey water..brrr! Who is the “other half of the family”..Your family from NZ come to join you all? Such a beautiful wilderness area…I think I mentioned Dave and I camped all across Canada on our honeymoon and that was one of our stops..the Banff/Jasper area..in a little tent. Does your son see many bears…that is when they wake up? We are going hunting for clams on Easter..not eggs but blowing yours out looks like fun too! 🙂

      • Yes, we go clamming/crabbing/oystering a lot. Just dug 80 butter clams yesterday! 🙂 I would attach a photo but no idea how to do that here. So are these your grandchildren that have come to join you in Canada? Stay warm up there in the mountains. Our freezing, cold, weather days are over on the slopes so we are building a boat to enjoy the warmer breezes. It its called a Candlefish!

  4. How fun! The mountain, the Farmy world in Minecraft and the egg decorating.

We used to do egg rolling, with hardboiled eggs that you decorated and then rolled down a hill to see whose gets to the bottom first… Well, it was always a gentle grassy slope rather than a steep stony hill. Egg rolling down a mountain may not be quite as successful 😂

Have a wonderful time in the mountains!

  5. Wow! Surfing the river looks amazing. Not something I would do, but bravo to those who do. Although I was born and raised in Alberta (the prairie part not the mountain part) I never did learn to ski. I would chose sitting in a café with a good book, or a notebook as well. Enjoy your family!

  6. Yes, I’m having a 5-day weekend. My older daughter is on a plane on her way home from British Columbia right now. She’ll be arriving in a couple of hours. My younger daughter will be boarding a plane from Prince Edward Island later this afternoon. We’re having both sides of the family over here on Sunday for Easter dinner and also a retirement celebration for my husband.

  7. What lovely scenery! Looks a bit cold for me, but seems they are having fun. The river offers a much longer ride, not carried to the shore as the ocean. Hope everyone made it through that safely!

  8. I think you have chosen the better part. It’s many years since I skied, although I did love it, but these days I’d choose a balcony in a sunny corner out of the wind and drink hot chocolate and read a book while I waited for the energetic to play.

  9. My girls and I eventually did the egg blowing and then painting. How many hardboiled eggs can any person eat? I love them, but they don’t always love me back. I used to ski quite well. Now I’m afraid to break something and don’t want to get cold. I would be in the lodge with a hot coffee!

  10. I’ve been showing your pictures to my hubby – bringing back memories…in his early twenties he hiked from Canmore all the way to climbing to the top of Mount Assiniboine. Did the up and over loop to Banff and back down. So now I’m getting all the old stories again 😁
