This new beach is stoney and wild and wicked. The waves and the wind are heaving. The undertow is a shocker! We love it.

The Beach:
Things are not calm here.
The wind was howly huge.
Blowing up the waves.
So we went down in behind the beach:
The Estuary:
Where it was a little more sheltered and filled with promise.
With lovely walkways.
This (below) shot is towards the hills with my back to the beach. (I am still orientating myself).
This shot (below) is from the estuary (my back to the hills) across the river and out towards the beach. I need to find a map of the area for this to make sense.
Are those people fishing? Or having some kind of mad midday party.

It is morning again. The house is stirring. Time to get back outside! The little people are beginning to catch on to the fact that if Ceci is not given lots of outside time she gets twitchy!

i am enjoying your trips with you. Leaving this morning for six days in Kapiti. I don’t want to live there but enjoy the short breaks in the lovely house with Daisydog.
I quite like those coast – but am quite drawn to the coldness of Otaki Beach. PekaPeka feels almost tame in comparison yet so close.
the four beaches are so different along the coast. Paekakariki and Otaki are often wild and windy while Peka Peka and Paraparamu are more gentle.
There is something energizing about an angry sea!

Estuaries are a balm on windy beach days.
They are! And it has been windy since we arrived!
Heaven forbid that Ceci gets twitchy and starts looking for pigs or cows to wrangle 😉 Two very diverse scenes and they both are beautiful in their own way. I also like that you don’t have to go far to have either experience.

Ooh, love a nice blowy beach, and the wind in my face, full of salt mist. So long as I’m not also freezing cold, at which point it becomes miserable. But warm, I can take all the blowy weather that comes. It blows the twitches out, doesn’t it?
