The Last Sunset

My son called me an East Coaster yesterday!

When I lamented that I had never seen the moon set on the West Coast!

The sun sets at 5.30 pm. The moon sets at 8.15pm.

Huh. I said. You are such an East Coaster, he said. I was born where the sun rises I lamented as I tried to excuse away the surprise of the moon setting straight after the sun. And in Illinois the moon rises on the opposite side of the setting sun.

Then I had to have a think.

We learn things as kids then never think to question these fundamental facts later in life. As adults.

The above is of course my favourite shot from yesterday evenings walk.

And there is the moon. Dutifully following the sun down into the sea.

I did not see any Northern lights last night. Maybe not far enough South. Or possibly I just went to bed too early.

Bus today. To Napier. Then across the island (it will take 5 hours on the bus), then I drive out to Te Awanga beach. To stay with my godmother for two nights.

Te Awanga is in Hawkes Bay (Hawkes Bay is the name of the region). Te Awanga is just around the bay from Napier. (Yesterday’s map). So, I have to get a wriggle on.

There will be a TKG Take Ten in a few hours. Make sure to subscribe). I take you for a walk on track to the beach. And another tomorrow (ambient soothing sounds of the beach at sunset) if I get it loaded before I leave WiFi this morning.

Tomorrow: In the morning. My brother and I are taking my Dad’s ashes out to the cemetery to pop them in the same plot as Mums. I have not been there for many years so it will be an event. A milestone. A full stop to a lifetime. More on that tomorrow.
