It crawled right across the hay feeder above the cows and then into the loft.
I think knitting was Friday? Was it Friday? Having Fourth of July holiday on a Thursday upset my brain.
Here he is. It may be a she. This is a Fox Snake. And now it is in the loft – eating eggs.
I know there is no reason to be afraid of this snake but I am feeling less than confident about hurling myself up the ladder and into the hay loft.
Things were cool (weather wise) and busy on the farm this weekend.

This morning I drive up to O’Hare airport to pick up an old drama student of mine. Allan Henry.
He will take a well earned break on the farm for a few days before heading up to Chicago for a conference on something. I look forward to hearing about that.
He comes with his son. I love having young people on the farm.

I think you could definitely do without a snake eating your eggs!
They can bite, but are non-venemous constrictors on the endagered list.
i’m a bit scared of snakes and hope it goes away and leaves hte eggs alone. how lovely that you’ll have asme nice visitors as well
Yes! The summer visitors are always fun! Plus of course I put them all to work!
I had a moment of disbelief last night as I watched the video on Take Ten. I wonder if this is a friend of the glass house snake, or perhaps the same one! Remember to make lots of noise and stomp a bit when you go into the loft to alert him/her to move away 🙂 At least Quacker is able to hang out on the fringes of the flock. The main group looks like they are having a meeting of some sort- deep in duck discussion 😉

Saw that snake on instagram, they really give me the heebeejeebies even when l know they are not venomous. Summer visitors that will help, the best sort. Everything looks lovely(except for 🐍)😳
You couldn’t pay me to go up in the loft. That snake is terrifying. Give me a spider any day.
We were up in the loft checking for roof leaks today and never saw him- though there are lots of places for a snake to hide! 😂
When I watched the snake move carefully along, I thought of those young women gymnasts who perform on the narrow 4” wide beam without falling. Always amazing.
Terrified of snakes but I would love to live on a farm! It looks so peaceful
It is very peaceful. Once chores are completed for the day. There are flurries of frantic activity at times but mostly the farm creatures and I plod along nicely.
