Before I take you outside for an inspection of the Farmy, I want to show you a treasure I found in California. A beautiful girl took me to a Fantastic Second Hand Shop, I think it was called a Consignment Store. Look what we found:
I used to use one in Italy when I worked over there but Lost it somewhere along the way.
It just fell through the cracks of time.
And just when I need a real Parmesan Grater for my own Parmesan cheese, one turns up on a dusty shelf behind all kinds of junk in the shop of my dreams! Like my well worn Italian one, it has a little drawer and is perfect.
I brought a little cheese out from the cheese cupboard to show you. We found this big white bowl in the same store too.
How about that for pretty!
Now there is one other treasure that I found in California but you and John will have to wait to see them. Third son is going to ship them to me. Fingers crossed!

Wow, those are true finds! I’ve never seen a grater quite like that one. 🙂
Isn’t it tremendous and perfect for home made parmesan cheese, which is a bit drier than the store bought variety.. c
Never saw anything like that before! Now that’s what I call a find.
I know Miss T, I literally yelped with delight when I spied it!
Now that is so beeeee-autiful. And I love the little rounds of cheese…is this how you make it?
yes those are my little wheels, they are 5 inches across and just the right size for us and my cheese cupboard, which is an old wine fridge and quite thin! c
How fantastic! I’ve never seen one like it and now I want one. Lucky you! Would love to know how to make homemade parmesan, too…
I will make another wheel soon and take you through the process, I am just being lazy.. it is cooler now and a perfect time for cheese making! c
I was hoping you’d say that! 😉 Looking forward to it.
Had I been with you, we would have fought over that grater. What a find! I frequent second hand stores and consignment shops and rarely find anything worth bringing home. Glad your luck is so much better than mine.
I thought you might like it John. I have never seen one out here before. The woman in the store did not even realise there was a little drawer in there to catch the cheese, She thought it was some kind of spiky kitchen ornament. I am so glad it is this clean and in perfect condition. Naturally it is immediately in use. Quite by chance the drawer is a perfect size to fit one wheel of cheese, so it will go from fridge to table and back! Perfect c
Fits right in with all the other treasures in your kitchen.
It does greg, everything in there is USED! one way or the other. c
Great find!
Sure was Rosemary. i hope it is sturdy as it will be used almost every day of my life! c
The bowl and the grater are lovely. How amazing to have your very own parmasen cheese. Hope the package arrives safely from California.
I need to make some more cheese this fall too, once we start eating the cheese it goes fast! It is like the wine, it will get better with age but i find it SO HARD to wait! c
So pretty! I love these simple, elegant, beautiful things. Lovely, C.
and useful desi. you are right – the design is so simple and elegant.. c
I am deeply, deeply envious. I doubt that I can find forgiveness in my heart – I so believe that parmesan grater should be sharing my kitchen space. Brilliant, what a fab find, and if it’s not here I can’t think of a better home for it.
It was a stroke of luck, Roger. Especially as my favourite cheese to make is the parmesan, actually it is the easiest!! c
A gorgeous grater. A thing of beauty. And a fantastic find.
The one minor snag is that if it were in my kitchen I would be forever grating and would have to have pasta for every meal, so I’m pleased it’s in your safe hands 🙂
Being the cheese fiend i am I can sprinkle cheese on everything with somewhat gay abandon.. it will get a lot of use. especially as it is pretty enough to go straight to the table as is! c
So perfect! and a wonderful addition to your kitchen.
i am lucky aren’t I! c
Very cool!
I think so too Bella! c
These are so nice, so nice… Wonderful to work with this one. You did a great shot dear Cecilia, and I wonder now the other surprise 🙂 I made my fingers crossed too. Thank you, with my love, nia
Don’t forget to cross your toes too Nia!! .. c
I would kill (maybe) for a grater like that. I am going to start hunting for that.
Let me know if you find one, they are so good! c
