The last January Walky on the Farmy

TonTon and The Big Dog waiting for the walkies to commence.  And no, I did not pose them that way.  Big Dog is untrainable. You will note TonTon’s beseeching expression. The Big Dog still rules the roost and is obviously muttering mean threats. WHO is the housekeeper around here I want to ask. Does she never clean? Though in her defense I will add that this looks suspiciously like a dog SHOOK itself AT the window.  That kind of clean window vandalism is hard to keep up with.

No leaves for a few months yet. Still January, do not be fooled by the weather.  February is coming.

I did put my lettuce was put out in the sun yesterday and it was thrilling watching those little green leaves reach up to the sun. Though they had better not reach too far or I will be harvesting nothing but stalk!  My faithful wee  sparrows love the sun too.

As do Son Of Neanderthal Man and his First Wife. Apparently in their hurry to get out into the sun, they forgot to put their feet on this morning.

Big Fat Mama who frankly is not nearly fat enough and Moaning Mia were led into the Rat House Paddock for a bit of fresh kai, well kind of fresh, more like old tough grass left over from last year, but they were happy.

So Daisy is peering Up at me. She has a two door stable door.  From outside she managed to knock her top door closed, leaving the bottom door open.  Now she wants to come back inside and be a nuisance but cannot fit through the small low gap in her door. She wedged her head under the top door and was trying to break in that way.   It seems pleading looks abound today.

Here is one of the bee hives in the flowerless bee garden.  Waiting for summer.  Just like the rest of us. I can just imagine all those little bees sat on the edges of their little bee chairs in their little Bee Court and The Queens spokesbee saying Almost February People – Over Halfway Now  and clapping all their little bee wings.  It will be warm enough for them to fly out for a toilet break today (they do not have a lavatory in the hive, so that will be a great relief I am sure) and there are plenty of puddles around for a drink, so they will be pleased.

It is already 43F! We have had a Hawke’s Bay winter so far.  I love this winter. Today it is forecast to reach 53F.  It is dawning clear with a breeze and we are preparing to take all the John’s plants out for an airing and some sun later on!

Good Morning.

  1. Big Dog is so regal that I thought he was a statue that Ton Ton was standing next to.
I saw two squirrels getting silly with each other today and think they think it is spring and mating season. If they continue their behavior, will babies survive sudden winter weather in the midst of all this warm springy weather?

  2. If looks could kill, Big Dog…must have gotten up on the wrong side of bed! Great way to say goodbye to January, Celi. I’ve often wondered about that peculiar noise from bee hives. The little stinkers are clapping! Tell me, for what do you use the bee pee ? (Ok…ok…couldn’t resist!)

  3. Our dogs have similar expressions outside the screen door most all day long. So cute, your two.
I laughed out loud when reading your snippet about the chicken feet. I’m still snickering.
Lovelovelove like alwaysalwaysalways your wondrous photography skills and dry wit. And not necessarily in that order! 😉

  4. That is very funny Cecilia. I love how you’ve named all your animals. You would have been a great wife for Noah! Yes, where are the chicken’s feet? And your sheep are beautiful. What a pretty breed. They look very warm in their wool. Great post. Love seeing photos of your enviable lifestyle.

  5. Love the pic of the dogs and there was me thinking it was snow until I read on. Who wants to do housework anyway? Not me for sure and my excuse is the sea spray makes it not worth while washing the windows ;0)
