In the summer, once the tomatoes begin to ripen, we eat bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches on freshly made bread every Friday, for as long as the tomatoes last.

Now, you think one would get tired of them wouldn’t you. But we don’t. Every Friday they are a little different. Yesterday I cooked the bacon folded in little parcels so it was thick and tasty. The bread was rosemary and pumpkin seed. The mayonnaise was made with fresh onion and fresh yoghurt. And I added a very thin slice of home made fresh cheese. I know that cheese is not strictly in a BLT but it was so good. And getting better every time I make it. I have decided to rename the Farmers Cheese – Country Cheese. Because I can.
I left you a bit!
Good morning. In the night we had storm after storm sweep through and some of them brought rain. Lovely, lovely rain. With lots of loud thunder, which terrified the dogs, and howling winds. But thats OK, because our fields got a drink. And the rain barrels and the cows water barrels are all full.
I find it really hard to sleep when it is raining. It is almost as though I need to stand watch or something. As though the rain might get in a huff and storm off if I don’t give it some attention and listen to what it is saying. So I just lie there facing the window and pause in the night.
Have a lovely day. I am going outside to splash through delightful puddles on the way to the barn to start work.

I’m pleased to hear you’ve had some rain. What beautiful looking BLTs. That is a favourite sandwich of mine too. xx
That is so beautiful!
Hi Celi! We have been eating tomatoes for about 10 days now! It’s very exciting and delicious. One of our favorites for sandwiches and salads is Black Krim. It is yummy!!! So glad you got some rain! It is soooo hot and dry here! It’s hard to be outside as the hot, dry air seems to suck the breath right out of us! We are hoping for rain next week! Happy Saturday!!! Di
we got high winds but still no rain. they are saying we might get some today. i will believe it when i see it! i eat a mayo and tomato sandwich each time one of mine ripens. on homemade bread! i could eat them forever without getting tired of them. your sammie looks really good!

I could eat a BLT every Friday. I could eat a BLT almost every day. Especially one of yours.
Delicious sandwich – i could eat that every Friday too!
Bacon butties – perfect! Before and after long trips away I ALWAYS make myself bacon butties, I suppose it’s my way of saying goodby to British bacon and welcome home Claire !
And rain, how refreshing for you after your hot hot hot days!
Delectable would be the word. Yum.
It’s not possible to ever tire of a BLT. Your’s looks fabulous.
Rain AND a delicious BLT…….yummmmm. I love to listen to the rain, its so soothing to my soul.
Sooo soothing I fall asleep !!…..I will be right over to play in the puddles . Enjoy !
Your BLT’s are looking delicious! I guess if you don’t really live off the land and know how important water (rain) is, you could soon get bored with it! Hugs to you!
BLT’s! So good I wouldn’t wait for Friday. I would devour them every day. But then BLT’s are my absolute fav sandwich. You are a woman with discerning taste. Virginia
I know what you mean about not sleeping when it rains after a drought. In Seychelles, when the monsoon changed to the wet season it usually followed a period of tense hot humid weather that tried the temper of everyone. So when the rain finally started, we used to rush outside and leap up and down laughing with joy! I have a photo of Jock cleaning the car in his swimming trunks, no need for a bucket, just a bit of elbow grease on the very dirty bits.
We are experiencing drought conditions, but if you told me I could have some of that rain or one of those sandwiches, I’d have to think long and hard before I gave my answer.
