A Soap Opera without Soap or Opera

When I am at the hairdressers, which I have to admit is not often enough, they have a big TV showing soap operas.  As I only see them once every two months or so it seems to me that they move about as fast as the farmy.   The story line is easy to pick up after an absence. Very little happens.

Each day unfolds the same, though the lighting may be different.   I think that the characters on the farmy are a little more unpredictable than the soap opera people. And there is no weather in a Soap Opera and we are ALL weathers.

The characters are the same every day.  The fans get a little mobby sometimes and veryone is growing older, ever so slowly,  right in front of our  Camera eyes.

Camera (who is behaving very well since being reunited with her favourite lens) visits her Soap Opera every day and wonders who is writing the script. There is a  total lack of action during the current season.  Maybe it should be called ‘Mud  Song’ instead of Soap Opera.

We have our stars.

And our old couples.  But to tell the truth it is a  Sleepy Soap Opera without Soap or the Opera.  Maybe it is ‘As Slow As Grass Growing  Opera’. I think you could think of a better one. It might be too early for my slow-as brain.

Good morning.  Today I am going to mow for the compost heap down the back. I use the tractor to transport all the clippings. Then I will clear out two of the dry barn pens and lime their floors in preparation for winter and add all that to the compost heap as well. I layer brown and green so it gets nice and hot.  So there is a bit of work ahead of me today.

Mama’s fleece was sent to the mill to be fluffed up into Candy Floss That Crazy Sheep Lady   knows an awful lot about this process so zap over and see the pictures she took for us.  It really is a fascinating read, and Mama’s fleece looks stunning.

I hope you are going to have a lovely day.

On this day a year ago..  I bottled the last of the honey and made some of my Mums pikelets.. That was a busy day.

  1. Oi Who filched my comment? I might have ended up in your spam C …sigh. I love to visit the Farmy where the characters are prettier and muuccch more interesting than any soap. Spent time today getting my compost ready for my Spring garden :). Laura

  2. I much prefer popping in to see what life looks like on the Farmy to anything on television. You and your menagerie represent such a delightful joy in the every-day of what I celebrate in ordinary. I prefer stability to artificial excitement and entertainment. If I had Kupa and those piggies I’d be entertained quite enough! 🙂 I am so glad you are willing to take the time to share with us, Celi! Debra

  3. May I please retire at your farmy! I will work hard and say witty thing for your blog. I love your farmy and all the wonderful animals and all the great things you cook. Your farmy has become my heaven. I’ll be happy to live in the barn. HF

    • Oh sure, there is a lovely corner in the barn right next to where the peacocks roost, the spot UNDER where the peacock roosts is being held for someone special. Sorry.. c

  4. IF (see how big that if is?) IF I ever get to travel to different places it is always the food that I am interested in…so I love learning to cook new things. The next most wonderful thing to know about (and why Terry and I ALWAYS TAKE THE BACK ROADS) is what is happening in the farming/ranching world.

Actually, nothing moves really slow on the farm…it just looks like to other people.

Good post! And thanks for the NEW recipe!

  5. Your soap opera farmy analogy comparison is hilarious. I mentally transposed both sets of characters to the alternate locations – farmy on set, and TV actors (from I think the last daytime soap I looked at least a decade ago was DOOL, or it might have been TB&TB) on farmy and gave myself a laugh. Seriously though, I can just feel the peace the farmy is currently experiencing, seeping from your images… aaaaahhh 🙂

  6. I would much rather visit your farm song that watch a soap any day. And your ‘star’ is dressed better than any Hollywood costume department could ever provide.

A working title for your farm song- “As the Butter Churns”. Hmmm, maybe NOT! 🙂

  7. I’ve never watched television soap operas, because I love both (soap and opera) and as you’ve pointed out, they involve neither. 😛
An opera written about soap would be really funny ~ clean humor! And a farm opera would be fun, too!

  8. I wonder who watches soap operas these days when there are so many “fascinating” reality shows!! I like your farm life so much better….maybe you could throw in a bit of animal romance!

  9. That’s quite a modern wool processing production there. I’ve seen wool carded and spun by hand, but it never looks quite that fluffy and clean…or at least what I saw wasn’t. How beautiful, and I know whatever you do or make with it will be beautiful, too!
