Walkabout on the Farmy.

Morning darlings.

Our walkabout yesterday started on the North side. My favourite view of the barn.

After the milking Daisy and Queenie walk out to their new field.

I let ut the Shush Sisters  (this is Charlotte)  and we went and visited Hairy MacLairy on the left and Mama on the right.  You can see that Hairy has managed to shuck his harness again.  I am thinking of renaming him Houdini.

Such a sweet sheep.

Minty on the left and her sisters Mia and Meadow are in the Rathouse paddock far far away from the ram. Pania, Tui and The Duke of Kupa  are just about to be sprung cleaning up the pig food.

In the evening we do everything all over again.

John came home from work while I was milking and took a shot for you.

The day was once again deeply grey except for that tiny window of light in the late afternoon.

We are taking the pigs into their new winter quarters this morning for a try out.  So Eldest son can see his work in action.  Then it is onto firewood. As you know we heat with wood gathered from fallen trees. We need to get it all split and into the Wendy House all ready for this winter.

I have just slept in. I can’t remember doing that for a long time. So I am wooshing through these words.  It is already dawn. So TonTon and I need to get out there and get busy. Daisy will be waiting.

Have a lovely day! Lets hope for some good autumnal light so I can really put the new camera through it paces.

    • Queenie has not been bred yet, I am going to wait until next season as she is only just over a year old now and you are right she is so small.. even for a hereford, but she makes up for it in width!! c

  1. Really enjoyed the walk today Celi. Fabulous photos. Pleased to hear you had a lie in. Have a wonderful day.
    Regards Florence x

  2. Wandering the farmy with you is always a joy! When there is more light, maybe you can show us the animal homes inside the barn too. Sure wish we had a barn the size of yours! It’s fabulous. Happy Happy Thursday! xo

    • Happy Thursday Missouri! . What an excellent idea to see inside each pen in the barn before they are filled with animals, i will do some of barn keeping and then do a shoot in there.. c

You are so fortunate to be able to stay home everyday with the farm and animals. I miss that and hope that in five years I’ll be able to do that too. I haven’t milked since I was a teenager living at home with Mom and Dad but I don’t think it’s something you forget. I also love the barn and we have two large ones on the farm and four small ones. Each one is laid out differently to meet the needs of the animals using it. Barn interiors tell a story all their own. They may not be used for what they were initially used for but are still so interesting and take me back to a time 50 years back.
Thanks for the walk and hope to do it again soon! Have a great week!

    • How wonderful that you have so many barns and still in their original condition, ours has been stripped inside but we are slowly reclaiming it. You have a lovely week too Rita! c

  4. Sleeping in is something very rare for us too… but I’m glad you got a chance to do it and enjoy it

wonderful photos, as usual, thanks for the virtual walk!

    have a wonderful day!

  5. Something about barns isn’t there? (Heehee–I first typed bars…something about them too.) Your patience and gentleness shows in the animals. Thanks for the morning exercise–walkabout.

    • You know, that is my favourite shot of the day. She does that every day waiting for me to get the milking buckets in order. She just stands there chewing gum and watching.. c

  6. Love these walk-abouts, Celi, and good to see TonTon back to his old tricks, getting some camera time whenever he could. Glad to read you were able to sleep in a bit. Must be something in the air. Max let me sleep in today, too.
    Have a great day!

    • That Max!! yes I had to laugh as he positioned himself inside so many frames. Though lying right in front of mama was taking his star role a little too far!! Morning John.. c
