In a very noisy way. A windy way. When I am outside in a wind like this TonTon cannot hear me call him. The peacocks do not even bother coming out. It is fiercely loud. Yesterday the wind roared all day. Last night it raced past the house screeching and trying out every crack, and as I sit in my dark little study writing, this morning, it is still howling out there.
Most of the animals pay no attention to the wind. Except I notice that the faces of the cows are more tearful. Their eyes are so huge that the dust in the wind must bother them.
It certainly bothers me. Working in the barn yesterday the hay and straw and dust flew about inside. Can you see the big doors bowed inwards.
As soon as the wind drops I will have to close and properly latch them against the weather. This one has pushed its blocks back inside and is jammed against the concrete floor, I cannot shift it with a 50 mph wind battering its shoulder into it from the other side. I hate to shut out the light but screaming winter is coming. Time to close the big doors.
Hairy is on the other side, looking in. Go back to your own side Hairy, your door is open.

Daisy’s feed has been increased to winter rations. She needs 2 pound of hay for every 100 pounds of bodyweight. So she will have 30 pounds of hay a day, plus eight pounds of grain. Her milk production had increased after she started feeling better and putting her back on the beleagured grass for 24 hours. But with the rain she is back off the grass so I will increase the dry food again.
The Daily View does not show you how warm it was yesterday.
In fact it got up to 70F. Then plummeted. And now as I write it is 32. Freezing. I guess I will have to light the fire today. We were promised snow and sleet overnight but if it arrived it was quickly whisked away by the wind, along with all the leaves and dust from the fields, and anything not nailed down or carefully stowed away. I sometimes wonder where it all goes. Does the wind collect all this debris then at the end of its own journey, when it stops being a bendy-tree wind, does the gale exhale and just dump everything it has collected into one big heap somewhere. If you are at the end of the line can you look for my good green bucket and the teenagers black bowler hat? Thank you.
Good morning everyone. I should have written some of this last night when it was warm, as it is I am hunched over my keyboard, dressed for outside, hattie and scarf on already. Tapping away with chilled fingers.
So off out I must go.

Poor Hairy, he’s a very sociable sheep 😉
hairy is the kind of sheep who really would come into the house and stand next to me while i write, as long as I write with one hand and scratch behind his ears with the other.. morning mad! c
That wind was really something, wasn’t it? On the plus side, it looks like someone swept the walk through my backyard. I’ve got to get out back and make sure everything else is where I left it. I’m just not in any hurry to face the cold yet. I’ll join Max when he’s ready.
The wind’s died down around here. I doubt it will be long before you can say the same. Have a great Monday.
I noticed that when I finished the milking it was calmer, still blowing but not nearly as loud.. but it iS cold.. rug up John.. stay warm.. c
“Rug up” Love that!
I did not want to leave a weather comment again today. But I must, because I can empathize. Weirdest fact of all from Minnesota on Saturday was the tornado which touched down in portions of two Twin City metro communities to the north of us. Trees uprooted and minor damage like that. But this is only the second time, I believe, that a November tornado has occurred in our state.
Nasty! Its ok to make weather comments, we get consumed by the weather when the days get shorter.. c
Thanks Celi – now I know what type of weather to expect tomorrow! I can always count on you!
poor you then! c
Mornin’, c! I don’t like the wind. It means earaches for the wee ones and too much time inside. I hope today is a calmer day for, you 🙂
Windy here in Montana too. glad I don’t have 20 inches of snow to blow around!
The missing things will return…when the wind blows the other direction!
Stay warm!
Good point, sometimes I think the wind is going around in circles anyway!! c
Morning, c, and hello to the farmy! Those are very long shadows being cast across the daily photo. Just think – another month and then we’ll start the long climb toward spring again. Yippee!
It just never makes sense to me.. our days will be longer and colder and we are reassured by that. We are bonkers! c
Ah yes, our nasty weather has arrived at your doorstep. And it arrived in the same way it arrived here. It will leave the same way…which is good. BUT the bitter cold will follow and linger. We should warm up in two -three days. Too cold for dogs so they are sleeping in the house until it does.

That’s a lot of feed for one cow! I hope you have enough. 🙂
We have wind today – and birds flying overhead like crazy – so it’ll be chilly tonight.
I always wondered if the cows had teary eyes because they knew soon all the soft green grass outside will be gone.
You can put a 4×4 or larger board across the walk from barn door to heavy post to help keep the doors from bowing in if the blocks keep sliding….but then you have to be really careful and remember that’s there across the aisle..can get tripped up in the dark ( not fun, really)
Enjoy the day!
I have a system that I had taken down after the summer winds, it is back in place now. I was just not quick enough off the mark yesterday.. and I do walk the barn in the pitch black when I am checking animals or early in the morning so I am careful not to leave traps for myself! c
It’s fascinating, miss c, to watch you get the weather we just had, and to read the comments from those who are east of you and still anticipating it. Lovely to be reminded in such a way that we are just one big community. And I do hope you have toasty fingerless alpaca gloves for typing away in the chilly office.
Alpaca gloves! No I do not, and fingerless to boot, is that what you have?..I want some! All we need is to be starving in a garret and our fame is guaranteed! c
I have often thought about that Parisian garret myself, miss c. How could one fail? And yes indeed, fingerless Alpaca gloves are exquisite and fit right into the chilly garret scenario.
i shall put them on the list! We have possum gloves in NZ.. they might do.. c
it was very windy here also, and warm, and now it is snowing mixed with rain and very chilly
Crazy weather, eh? Cold, warm, windy… but at least the sun is shining 😉
I was gardening without a coat on yesterday, or even a sweater! It was lovely, just wearing a short sleeved T-shirt. Today the temperatures will plummet here too. It was a nice treat. Hope you stay warm. Summer temperatures are just around the corner for you…we have another 5 months to deal with it.
Ah yes, lucky me I get time off for good behaviour! but only three weeks, I will join you for the worst of it! c
Stay warm, darling. I’ve never met a farmer who likes the wind – they stand and shake their fist at it and curse it. Doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold wind – I’m told they all make farming life harder.
