The Duke of Kupa’s flipside eye

Imagine if you had a third eyelid, like a veil.

That you could draw, like a blind, across your eyes ..

.. but still see out.

How disconcerting would that be, to those who wished to pry at you with their miniature crowbars. Your veil eye would keep you safe.  A safety net.  I see you but you can’t see me kind of thing.

What it is called is the nictitating membrane and it is for moistening of the eye. Many animals and birds have this. Evidently the birds can see through it too. Though how anyone knows that I have no idea as the man who gave me that little piece of information  is not a peacock.

I have a very silly problem now. Two chapters yet to write on the novel and the cold has cracked the tips of two of my fingers.  This happens every year until my hands toughen up.

So it stings to type and my fingers seem to have a mind of their own, they want to flatten out or avoid the keys completely. I have to consciously force my fingers to tap properly, leaving little specks of blood on the keys.  And it is so slow. Even writing this much has been at the pace of a snail.  How silly is that?  I shall have to get the sticking plasters out.

We had a warm day yesterday. The milking pump worked much better in the cold morning, after a couple of hours under the heat lamp.

Good morning. You all have a lovely day.  I am going to look for the Sponge Bob band-aids, I think there are some in that disaster of a cupboard, somewhere.  How ridiculous.

  1. That’s suffering for your art…!
My goodness; I have been squirming in my seat as I read..! All kudos to you, and hopefully a nice salve to comfort your poor little fingers…!

    • Miserably it is my right forefinger that is the worst, so it is hard to hold a pen too, typical, but that is OK. I am sure once I start writing it won’t matter so much and i can always correct the spelling later on.. hope your writing is going well!? c

        • ah, you are pushing through the forest, magic is coming.. and thank goodness we do not have to hand these in for marking at the end! there will be a pile of work for me afterwards! .. though i find myself writing better every day.. which is interesting.. c

  2. Sorry about the fingers. I sometimes get this in the winter and it’s a pain to do much of anything. I don’t know what’s up with my wordpress but your page is the awfullest dark green. Can’t hardly read it. And I still don’t have my link to my page fixed. I really need to go blog and see if hubby can help me fix it! Have a great day and put some bag balm on those fingers!

  3. Perhaps fingerless gloves aren’t such a brill idea afterall? Do you have liquid plasters (bandages) in the US? At those wouldn’t feel bulky under your fingers. Poor you. 😦

  4. Kupa is beautiful! Stay away from chilli’s, tomatoes and onion chopping, they will also burn like crazy. Do you have an extra pair of surgical gloves in your meds supplies, they will give you some protection without totally reducing your sensitivity. Hope it all gets better soon. Laura

    • it is way below freezing when i start the chores and there is a lot of metal , buckets and handles and things.. I do wear gloves but they make me cack handed.well you can imagine.. c

  5. That’s strange. My two index fingers ( one on each hand, that is) both go completely white when the temperature reaches a certain level. I don’t know what that temperature is, but it certainly hurts. You have my total sympathy. There is something so emotive about drops of blood on the keys.

    • Yes my index finger and my middle finger are the culprits every single time.. my mum had that whitening down to the first joint thing..hmm.. and always in the same finger..how odd.. c

  6. You have Sponge Bob Square Pants sticking plasters! I so want some. I don’t want the cracked fingers though – I’ve no idea what to suggest, I use a type of Aqueous cream to help with my excema – gardening hands.

  7. Try Liquid Skin or NuSkin..they will last for a few days. If the pain is too intense, try one of those baby-teething numbing things, like Anbesol, although I’m not sure how it will impair the touch on the keys. Short term fixes to be sure, but it’s important you gets those words down .

    • Morning Audrey, it is frustrating, but usually my hands just get worse as the winter progresses, however all is not lost, i found the plasters and am wearing three on each finger so it is a little better.. c
