Home, my other home

To get to my favourite beach on earth we must first take a tiny peek of my favourite view where I grew up.  Napier. New Zealand.beach-013

The fishing boats. beach-005

I rode past these boats on the way to school… beach-008

every day for years. The beach where I grew up was too glary for a good shot.  But it is still there. beach-019

So I drove out to Mahia. I have a superstition that I always have to look back to Napier when I am leaving. I don’t know why, but this is what you see when you look back at my home.  And where I am standing for this shot was what I was looking across the Bay TO, every day of growing up.  Amazing isn’t it. beach-025

It takes two hours to drive out is Mahunga Beach.  But hush, it is our secret. beach-032

It is simply the most beautiful beach in the world. beach-030

Enough said.beach-032

Good morning. Last night we ate pan fried freshly caught Gurnard, from this beach.   Today the bach will be empty so I am going to take a writing day, all to myself, a little present to myself, but not until I have walked as far as I can up this beach and back.  There are no motels, or hotels, or shops, or crowds here. Just a wee collection of beach houses,  and a few beachcombing New Zealanders . You would love it. beach-039

Maybe I will have a little swim. We will have to see.

Have a lovely day.

  1. Such a beautiful spot, Celi, tucked away, unbeknownst to the tourist world. I hope it stays that way. There are kds currently walking that path, on their way to school, taking in that very same view. Look what it did for you. Who knows what it will do for them?
Thanks for taking us there today, Celi.

  2. Nice. nice, nice! I love open unspoiled beaches. There’s one on the open Pacific side of Vancouver Island called Long Beach. Remember how wonderful the times were that you spent at your beach? I remember my times at Long Beach too. Aren’t we lucky to be able to go back and make new memories? Way to go with the postages! I plan to be around for your next 500! 🙂

  3. Such a gorgeous place Celi!!! Jack and I and my sis and her hubby and 3 other teacher friends spent Christmas day with Chrissy H. and her family in her home in Napier a few years ago. We had a wonderful time and it was a stunning day! Did you Chrissy meet in Napier? Continuing having a fabulous time in your other home my friend!!! xoxoxo
