No time to loll about, Spring is BUSY!

We have water and sun. def-002

Soon maybe we will have pasture rising up from the tiny seeds we scattered a week ago. But not yet though. I think the seeds will wait for decent shower of spring rain and some warmth.

Mama is not amused that she cannot get her whole body through the lambs creeping- in door.

Meadow and Minty. Meadow is standing on a brick, she is not That tall.

Scrapper spends a lot of energy living up to his name. He is frequently missing and comes home with evidence of rumbles with other cats.  I am not sure that he is winning many of  these fights either. But as soon as I have gathered the funds all three of the barn cats will be visiting the vet. Why is it SO expensive to get a cat neutered.

The clear skies we have been having give us cold days but I get a lot achieved when it is cold and calm. The good news is that today will warm up above 50 I think and maybe I can leave the pump in the barn tonight after the milking. Now that would be nice.

It is getting a tiny bit greener.

Good morning. I have sat here in this predawn darkness, listening to John getting ready for work, and there are no words in my head. What an unusual occurrence. I am so tired that even my hands ache, and I have only just woken up, this is unusual as well. I need to start clearing the flower beds and digging the new gardens which is some of my favourite work so when the children and I have finished their lessons this morning we will go to the South side and begin. After my daily hour at the wood splitting pile.  I never feel tired when I am gardening. There is certainly no time to loll about in the spring.

We had an excellent water discussion in the comments lounge yesterday didn’t we? I learnt quite a bit about how other people and their areas approach their water conservation and use. Thank you.

You all have a lovely day.

love celi

PS Evidently I had not set up the link to Balloon Girl correctly yesterday so as requested here it is again. Sorry about that. Sometimes I work too fast! Now I am off into the clear blue dawn to milk Daisy. c

  1. Blimey, you are so busy. Like the day of an hour daily splitting wood – what a great work-out. I wish I was better at it, had better practice I suppose. So good that you have a tiny bit of green to spur you on!

  2. good morning miss c,
i hope you are not as tired anymore.
it is very expensive to neuter a cat at the vet. also here in israel. but there are so many street cats here that there are animal protection groups that catch stray cats and neuter them. then they cut off a tiny section of their ear to mark them so they wont be caught again. if you adopt a cat from the streets like we did with findus (http://wrappedtroubles.blogspot.co.il/2013/03/there-and-back-again.html) you can go to their animal hospitals and get them neutered for a very low price. i was wondering maybe there are other options as well where you live?

  3. What Viv said, Sweetie – tired is good, over-tired and feeling ‘off’ isn’t. All the good Fresh Food in the world can’t make up for it either…At least you’ll have the children to help weed today.
Enjoy the day – we’re below freezing again, but the sun is shining and the winds are calm(er)…

  4. Good morning Celi i know all about water problems i gotta go deal with a double pump system now. (sucking air into the lower pump) the soreness in your hands will go probably when you strip out your cow daisy right? gotta go have a blessed day. SAINTS

  5. here in doddridge county, wv there is local spay and neuter program
once a month, local lady takes vanload dogs and cats to be spayed/neutered at vetinary collage
it only cost $35 per cat
around $50 per dog, depending on size of dog

might check to see if anything similar in your area

  6. Yikes! Your notes today make me realize I need to get into the garden and start weeding, for sure! We have most of our beds ready to go and some planted. Already we have radishes, peas, broccoli, brussels sprouts, onions, garlic, spinach, turnips, and asparagus planted. Can’t wait to start eating them!!!!!! xo

  7. I agree with you about the neutering thing. I suspect that many of the crofters around here don’t get it done, no doubt preferring to drown kittens instead. Consequently we have quite a big problem with feral cats. It makes me angry that vets can’t take just a small cut in charges for just this one procedure. See, you’ve got me ranting again!

  8. Good Morning,
Have you asked around to see if a bigger city near you or the county you live in has a low/reduced cost spay/neuter program? I see an ad in the Journal Star a couple times of year about a clinic for this. I haven’t paid much attention because we don’t have a cat or dog right now, just a bunny.
Every time I see the daily view photo it makes me think of my husband’s grandparents’ farm. As you came out the back door and turned to the left on the sidewalk the view was similar. Garage to the left, barn to the right, machine shed in the middle, tree before the drive (no tree house), circle/teardrop in the drive with a tree, and then that glimpse of farm ground for miles. Just need to insert some large grain bins between the barn and shed to make it more like their farmstead and several tractors, implements, trucks, and occasional wandering chicken.

  9. We’ve been trying to get some ground worked and ready to plant but the weather keeps giving us just enough rain to make it impossible to plow and till. I guess it’ll get done eventually but I really need to get some of the early stuff in the ground! Enjoy your sun…we’re supposed to get a little more rain today. Sigh! 🙂 It’s all good though. Have a great day Celi!

  10. One of our cats, Smokey, was a fighter. He was endlessly wounded and beaten up. The vet advised us that as long as the wounds were on his head, or on the front of his body, he was OK – just needed patching up. It’s when they start getting wounds on their back and hind quarters that they are in trouble.
