Sheila was so excited to be out on a walk to her new pen that she literally ran rings around Charlotte and I as we slowly walked up the drive and through the gates and across the fields to the new Pig Palace.
Eating green grass, and laying in the dirt is piggie heaven.
Charlotte perked right up and promptly began to dig herself a proper hole to lie in.
After a while it began to rain in earnest, and as their shelter is still in its developmental stage, I escorted them back to the barn. No-one minded. As soon as I have got another wall up, hang a gate so we can cut through the yards and extended the roofline on their wee house they can go out for the summer.
The rain yesterday was delightful.
The forsythia is coming out. I hope it holds some blooms until the bees arrive as it is a great favourite amongst the bees. The daffodils not so much.
Most of yesterday, between showers, I weeded the asparagus beds and began to lay the fresh straw on top in preparation for our crop.
A road closed sign has been erected at the end of our little dirt road. Hmm. That is not going to help me sell the asparagus is it. We will have to put our thinking caps on.
Good morning. Today will be more showers and wind. But like you I am not going to complain about the rain. The grass is growing fast now. The ditches are flowing, the creek is high and I can safely say that the top soil and the subsoil are now both met and wet, letting the rain get deep into the earth where our tree roots are. Osmosis is a wonderful thing.
I have work to do finishing the asparagus beds and getting the hives ready for the new harem. The roofing for The Coupe comes tomorrow, then we will see some major changes!
I hope you have a lovely day too.

PS I was so sorry to hear of the bomb blast in Boston. Poor people. I really know very little about it and refuse to join the news media in making a meal of other peoples suffering. But sympathy needs to be expressed or it is a useless thought. Take care.

So glad you are getting more spring rain. I found another interesting post and brief video on bees yesterday at frakerfarm.com. The bees are endlessly fascinating.
A good day to you all at your peaceful farmy.
Look at all that green grass!
The piggies do look so very happy!!!! Beautiful pictures of progress on the farmie!!!
Hi Celi. Chloe texted lunch-ish yesterday from her work, (she works 1 day/week as a dog groomer), “Boston marathon!”. I looked it up on line and all day kept hoping it was just a horrible, tragic accident and not an attack. My heart goes out to the people, Boston, and everyone in the world affected by terrorism. I also read once and don’t want to read on this morning. I know I hugged my kids a little tighter yesterday. Love to you and your family.
Nothing much cuter than a happy piggy!
(And yes, a moment of recognition and best to move on to life and deny those who would delight and thrill of seeing the tragedy play over and over searing into minds)
Grow, hay, grow! YEA
I just adore your green grass…we have spots of it here and there, but not as much as you. It’s this world amazing…your world has rich soil and you just have to scratch a hoe to get things to grow…here we have to work at it, ( our soil is made of clay and rocks and stuff that only likes to grow things that don’t really need much water and the season is short and windy and…)but then suddenly everything comes together and we sprout green…it does take awhile…by May I’m hoping we will look more like you! 🙂

Awww! The piggies are my favorites. They look happy and ready to enjoy spring. Lovely! Debra
Good Morning C….so nice to see the Farmy coming alive with all that green popping up everywhere…the wee bees will feel so welcomed! Now that is alot of asparagus…how many lbs. approx. do you think you grow? And can you tell us your favorite way to prepare it as I’m sure you really do it justice in the kitchen! 🙂
I don’t think I ever miss a day reading your blog; your posts are a celebration
What happy pigs! There was a great Hairy Bikers programme on BBC2 last night on rare breed pigs. I looked for a YouTube link for you, but there’s nothing there yet…
I adore your farm. It always looks amazing to me. And Charlotte is such a cutie pie. I may love Daisy but Charlotte is also catching my heart 🙂
Maybe you can add an amendment? Like except for farm and asparagus access?! 🙂
good idea! a handwritten notice stuck onto the official one!! c
Great new photo for your blog header. I love asparagus (never grown it) and forsythia (have lots in my yard). Reading your blog after work instead of before work today. Feels somewhat different. I am taking care of 4 cats which seems like a lot of work to me, but I think of you and all the animals you take care of, then I tell myself that 4 cats are a breeze. 🙂
four cats are still four cats to mind though! c
Nice to see that things are greening up!
We have a lot of small vegetable growers in the environment: they oft leave their produce at the garden gate or nearest x-road with prices and an ‘honesty box’ fastened next to whatever is available: trouble is if there is much thru’ traffic, it just may not know the word!!!!
people here are very against me leaving an honesty box, but i am going to do it anyway and wee what happens! you never know.. c
