Good News – with Hope attached

It looks like there is more action around the troubled bee hive  than I thought there would be. (Here are two little old tractors waiting to go and live in the sand pit of two bright little boys.)

Anyway, the scene yesterday outside the struggling hive was very active. Many bees from both hives were out flying about taking toilet breaks, seeking water, sucking down their sugar water at a thirsty rate and rushing in and out of their respective doorways. Heartening for sure.

I pulled a huge pile of dead bees that were blocking the entrance to this hive so I am hoping that the live ones have been busy releasing their queen. Something has got this little team motivated.

This rather disturbing shot of The Duke of Kupa is through the chicken wire wall of his penthouse. By focussing on the bird, the wire seems to have been absorbed.

And he looks like he is morphing through the  wall. Quite spooky really.

Naughty Sheila in the pig palace. Do you see the white of her eye? Pigs love mud.

The chickens are still laying about eighteen eggs a day  and they are selling very well this year. The poor little leghorns in their big container in the basement were due to come out this last weekend, but are having to wait until I can lift things again, then I will assemble the separate run in the chook house for them.

I shall work on that today, though I did push my back a wee bit too far yesterday. There are so many things I cannot Not do, if you know what I mean.

Good morning to you all.  We have a rainy warm day today. Perfect.

Have a lovely day.

  1. Glad about the bees. My guess is enough bees were balled around the queen to keep her warm. The activity is promising. We won’t get ours until mid-May. Kind of late, but we ordered late. We already have built out brood boxes to introduce them in, so we are hoping this will give them a good start. Keep that back warm!

    • I think late would have been better here too but the local guy only had one day available for everyone to pick them up on the same day. But this way they are ahead of the blossoms, so once they are established the apples will come out.. perfect.. morning maggie.. c

  2. Good morning Celi ; the view looks great. the pic of Cupa that’s one to keep for special effects. the pic is noteworthy. the news of the hive is great news and i do hope that they are freeing their queen. take care with your back for as you know it is very hindering. may you be blessed this day mike

  3. Morning Celi! Take care of that back!
The shot of the Duke is amazing… He’s like appearing from a wall, is gorgeous. I need to study a bit more about bees to fully comprehend all about the queen, but I hope she’s in there save and sound.
As for that back, have you tried a gentle massage? Maybe it will help to relax the muscles.
    Have a nice day 🙂

  4. Oh your poor back Miss C! How troublesome. I hope it is less sore and that you can strap a heat pack on. Great news about the bees. That photo of Kupa is incredible! I keep puzzling over it. Remarkable.

  5. Weather report first this a.m.: We awoke to about six inches of new snow on the landscape. Beautiful, but not really wanted. Those little boys will be overjoyed to get those two tractors. Good to hear about the bees. Not so good to hear about the back. Easy does it, Celi, although I know you cannot lounge about when the animals need tending and work must be done.

  6. Hope your back it well soon and I know what it feels like being “stuck” until everything heals properly. I finally had to go to a physical therapist for four weeks and learned some wonderful stretching exercises to keep me on the go. Take care and don’t overdue!!

  7. wow…that pic of kupa is really something. so glad to hear that the bees are okay! rain? blow some my way. i really need it here!

  8. Glad to hear your bees seem ok. Take it easy on your back. We farmers don’t handle injury well. Always so much needing done and some things just can’t wait! Glad your weather has improved. Love your pics today, as always. Have a great day Celi!

  9. Wonderful news about the bees, Celi. All we need now is some warm weather and a few trees to bloom. C’mon Spring! Sorry to read you pushed a bit too hard yesterday. I hope you have a better day today. Great pic of Kupa but that Sheila is something else!

  10. great news about the bees….but as for you and your back…try doing something before the muscle has healed will only make your back worse, so take it easy ducky!

  11. That shot of Kupa is amazing, kind of eerie as if he is walking right through the wire!
Glad to hear the good news about the bees – may they continue to prosper.
