You would think Sheila could have washed her face

Before she introduced herself to the piglets. But, oh no. She has to go out of her way to terrify them! I let her into the pen next door because it has a delicious muddy wallow.puss-012

So she rolled and wriggled deep into the mud then sauntered over to say hullo and  see if she could get a taste.

And then Mama Charlotte  wants to get involved but cannot even walk in a straight line for all the twittering and telling and piggie larking.

“I’m sorting out your bloody Auntie would you please just bugger off just for one moment. Can I have ONE moment to talk to a grown-up.” Charlotte has lost her composure.

puss-017

Apparently not. puss-022

The piglets cannot give up on making friends though.

Poor Charlotte. “Well have them.” She says. “Maybe this way I will get a moments peace.” Grumble. Grumble. Snap. She just went back to watching her own wallow fill up. The piglets are old enough for shallow mud now.

It was so lovely and cool yesterday. The dogs and I gardened after our stint in the kitchen making jam and pickles. I am growing one of the Farmy Forests in this garden, so everything I prune from this one is left on the floor of the garden.  The edges are not as pretty but we are getting there.

Directly across the drive from here is a field that will be lined with the Willows that I am growing for you. (We will plant more Fellowship Forest in the autumn) They will be shade plus feed. Willows are very good for stomach health of ruminants.

Big dog loves bush gardens.

Good morning. I forgot to shut the chook-house door last night and now (6.15am) I can hear chickens in the gardens which is not good for the tomato crop. Usually they only get the last hour of sunlight to rummage about. So I had better get their feed and call them all back in.

cat-and-dog

Oh and by the way all the cats are present and accounted for. The Chickpea was led out of the barn for a special wander amongst the flowers, the hay has been raked and there were no piglet breakouts!

Have a lovely day.

    • They are my folly. They are just old bricks in piles through that garden just for fun! As though something may havebeen there once. If I put them into the ground, as a path, the frozen earth squeezes them smashed. So they are just beautiful little cairns.. c

    • And literal!! As soon as these are weaned and trained they will go on clover walks with me twice a day to gobble up all the good stuff! c

  1. Poor old Charlotte! Those pig capers brought a real smile to my face – and the piglets have grown so much.
I hate it when I forget to close the coops. Sometimes I remember before sun up and bolt out of bed so that I won’t have to round them up in the morning. They really can decimate a vegetable bed. Why can’t they just focus on the bugs…
Oh and that is fascinating about the willows. One day when my boys have left me I hope to have a cow (consolation prize) and I will remember that. I hope.

  2. oh no…chickens in the garden? is there anything left or did they devour it? i can’t believe how fast piglets turn into pigs. isn’t this weather marvelous?

    • I seem to have got them back in before they got to the other side, if they get to a tomato I have to hide the evidence Johns gets wild!! phew! c

  3. You chose wisely with Charlotte and Sheila – they really are such fantastic pigs and don’t get me started on how cute the piglets are 😉

    • No darling, sorry, Author and Thing Two never came home. Such a shame, Author was such a sweet cat. I meant that all the present cats were present. The new one is quite the wanderer so may just wander off. LuLu and Scrapper are still around though, much closer to the porch nowadays.. very wise. c

  4. So lovely to see the big dog, he is so gorgeous. Sheila is the cool alternative aunt without kids and just a little bit scary to boot. Those piglets look amazing, how old are they now, more than one month but less than two? When will you ween them?

    • They are about five weeks i think, (I had better check) I will wean them at 6 weeks. Though i am not exactly sure how i will achieve that! c

  5. Sheila does look quite scary in the 1st pic LOL. Hope you are having another peaceful day. Laura

  6. it makes my day to read your posts! Whatever happens good or bad it is always interesting..thank you

  7. The piglets are growing so fast! haven’t you loved the cooler weather? It’s only 57 degrees here in Southern NH right now (9 am). A nice reprieve from 95 and 98% humidity! 🙂

  8. aaww poor Charlotte. Us little piggies just don’t give the ‘grown up’ pigs a moment of solitude, do we? Piglets are growing so fast! I just love seeing them…. and of course of my woman – hubba hubba – Charlotte! XOXO – Bacon

  9. I got all excited about Author and Thing 2, then I read the comments. I feel sorry for you, poor girl, losing them, but I’m so glad you got the two new marmalade cats. Hope they stay and make friends. 🙂
