The leaves are piling up and so am I.

I like the leaves, I never rake them.

The winds will come and deal with them soon enough. Until then I like the disheveled look of them. Their random falls and light shuffles. Shuffling light. Parchments and promises.

It is Saturday.  There will be lots of this!not-much-020

Sleepy time for babies. The Marmalade Cat is drinking out of a saucer now. It is a bright green saucer with an imprint of a fish on it. I felt it was appropriate.  He leaves little milky footprints all over the kitchen floor, not yet aware that we do not need our paws to assist our mouths to drink! Kneading the saucer will not elicit a rise in the tide. He is beginning to wash himself (Boo and I are intensely relieved) and has found his purr.  A good purr. Not the dying purr the happy purr.

Daisy managed to wack me in the head yesterday. My own fault entirely, I had thrown the hay into the Car Art feeder and then saw that a piece of baling twine had got itself thrown in as well. Both Daisy and I reached in at the same time to grab the hay and she grabbed a mouth full then whisked her head back and sideways sharply, to shake it free of the rest, unfortunately I was in the way. I ducked to avoid a collision grasping the twine at the same time and her 100 pound head only got me a glancing blow in the ear throwing me stumbly though almost neatly, against the fence and thankfully out of stomping range. And if there ever was a cow who would stomp it would be Daisy. I have to say I felt a little bit stupid for the rest of the afternoon. Not stupid.. as in what a stupid thing to do (which in fact it was!), but stupified and thick and tottery.  And I forgot to take any more images though the clarity of the light yesterday was intense like the pain in my ear.

No bruises or swelling. All good.  I shone a torch in my eyes to check for concussion but was  blinded by the light  so I could not see what my pupils were doing anyway. See what I mean? Not right in the head.

In a week I am going to go and spend a few days in California with my son and his family. I am going to pack my wee chilli bin bag with a variety of frozen meats, put a spare pair of knickers in my handbag and then Camera House and I will  fly across the country to the Central Valley  in California to cook and eat and chat and adventure. I will not be alone for four whole days. But I will not be leaving you alone. We will be having guests on the blog. It is a surprise – there are things being worked on behind the scenes! Busy. Busy.

I will tell you more about it next week.

Today I am going to make more soap. I love this soap!

Have a glorious day.

your friend,

celi

  1. Silly Billy! Tut Tut, don’t you know a cow’s head is thicker than yours? Hey you’ll be fine my friend, I am sure you have had harder knocks through your life like me – but we bounce back don’t we? Like you Doctors are not on my visit often list! In fact the years in between visits are stretching further and further as I get older (funny most of my friends say theirs is getting shorter!)
The wind does a great job on my leaves too, it blows them all into one corner of my property, right up against the fence and the chickens think it is great fun to rake through them during the winter looking for worms!

  2. I’m sorry, C, but I had to laugh when you shined the light in your eye and then couldn’t see. I’ve done things like that myself (which is why I laughed). A little trip is nice. We are heading out Tuesday day and coming back Wednesday on a Train trip to Denver. We could drive there in 5 hours but instead will take the train for 8. Terry has never ridden on a train so I gave him and trip and he gave us an over night stay ….breaks are nice. Hope you are feeling better by the time you read this.

  3. I’ve had to be absent for a week, but am glad to see that Boo and his baby are still doing well. You take care of your head and ear…that sounds like quite a hit. Maybe today should be a rest day. 🙂

  4. Celi, having been nearly brained by a goose wing to the temple (I almost passed out) I must join in and voice my concern about your hit from Daisy who is infinitely larger and could cause more damage.

If you continue to feel off, and/or feel very tired, do not go to sleep! Get the the hospital and get this checked. If you feel you can’t drive, then get someone to take you. xo

    • Goose wings, turkey wings, and rooster spurs! Even pekin duck wings! Painful as all get out if you don’t hang on! What we go through for a feast! LOL

  5. OMG! You’re coming out to my neck of the woods–I live in No. CA close to Berkeley. Wish we could meet. lol

Bummer about your head/ear accident. Maybe have Our John shine a flashlight into your eyes for a sec and then take quickly away to see what your pupils are doing. I had a very bad concussion years ago and it wasn’t like the doctors could do much for it anyway. Just watch for weird symptoms.

That Boo is such a handsome, charismatic dog, er dog nanny.

  6. I love to watch the leaves fluttering down from the trees this time of year and then the wind comes and blows them away. No raking here, either. We used to live where there was that adobe mud and with a flake of hay in my arms, my feet got stuck and I fell face first on the hay…..our milk cow was running full speed towards me to get her food. I did not know I could scream that loudly for help, lol. The joys of living with farm animals. Hope you are feeling OK. Thanks for the fix of CUTENESS again. Will we still be getting CUTENESS when you are gone? You will be missed.

    • No cuteness when I am gone, we will all be in withdrawal!! (only for a few days tho) Those cows can run can’t they. They would merrily run on top of us to get to hay, i bet you screamed! frightening.

  7. I worry about ears and balance, you don’t want to do a floppy beside one of the large animals. Do take care, we all have your best interest at heart. Do enjoy the break away to California, it is badly needed.

  8. So good that you are having a break in California! If you need treatment for your head, I’m sure you’ll find it there. I always get to a good cranial osteopath if I get an injury, and have everything put back in balance asp. Have a wonderful trip – will you see the sea?

  9. Arnica, arnica, arnica not matter what after bangs and bumps. Can you picture Wellington at the moment as the trees bend in half in the relentless stormy gales of spring? You are heading to the other side of “your” ocean in California. I hope the sea breeze wafts to you there.

  10. Carpets of beautiful blue here in sub tropical Oz as the jacaranda flowers loosen and float slowly to ground like a million butterflies. I don’t rake either, the carpet of blue on green grass is too pretty. I like Boo’s proprietorial arm across kitty. Like ordinarygood says…….arnica is the thing. Hope it all feels better soon, with a whack like that you know where the saying “seeing stars” comes from, enjoy your break.
