Corn is down.. I can see for miles and miles!

With a sunrise like this we had to have a good day.

And we did.ace-morning-056

Because the men in their green machines, came and took the corn away.

Later we went out to play in the stripped field. After pausing in the long grass for ‘short legs’ to rest.ace-morning-072

And watching Egoli – his new hunting tactic is to sit at the bird’s tea table and ask them to fly into his mouth.ace-morning-066

The Big Dog and his new coat. ace-morning-057

He loves his coat. Once he is dressed for winter he always looks so much happier and gets a rather unnerving spring in his step.

I had a plan to FedEx some home grown  frozen meat out to my son’s house in California so I could cook it when I got there.  It is all about the food when my family gets together. But after checking into the cost of over-nighting one pasture raised lamb roast, one grass fed beef roast, 4 packages of milk fed bacon, 4 grass fed rib eye steaks and a  fat chicken – I decided that I would  throw the clothes out of the suitcase and check the chilli bin as baggage instead. Everything will be well wrapped. Luckily I have a big hand bag for a change of underwear, a little skirt, footless tights, a cardigan, ballet flats,  something pretty,  and my toothbrush. I will wear my jeans and my boots, jam a book on top and put a lipstick in my pocket. All good. Can you tell I have done this before? I have an aversion to luggage.

Lets hope the meat stays frozen!  That is the most important thing.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farm

  1. I am envious of the home-grown, special food that you’ll prepare for your family. It sounds wonderfully splendid. Hope you have a lovely visit, as I’m quite sure you’ll do. xx

    • I was thinking of you a minute ago Linda, the combine came too close to my hay field, and i could just see his following hopper truck thinking about doing a turn in the field, He did last year and I was in a fury!)so Dogs and I raced out onto the porch and hands on hips gave them the Linda Look (like the one you gave the plane from the ditch!) He was very close to the house and may have seen the Linda Look from out the corner of his eye, or not – but he and his truck and the Combine reversed very meekly back to the beginning of the short row and wiggled into place for the next cut. I must call him and say thank you now. The man driving the Harvester wants to be nice to me as he has asked me to grow chickens for his freezer next year! In my ark!! c

  2. Good morning! 😀
Loved the photos this am! Everyone looks so happy!!! Little do they know you will be leaving them for a spell…sigh…they will miss you! Us too! 🙂
I know…shipping charges really get you. $$$$$ I ship every Christmas. We think alike! I too, am a frequent flyer visiting family, bearing gifts…I understand the need to pack efficiently! After all, everyone has a washer and dryer! But not my goodies! 😉
I wish the kids were all in one spot! Like next door!!! 😉 Flying is not as easy as it used to be! “Would you please put your seat up so I can use the ladies room?” “No. I don’t want to change seats, I am sorry your legs are too long!” “Is first class full?” uffda…
That is a super fine coat Big Dog is sporting! Stylin’!!! Where did you order it from? You can tell that he is nice and warm and feeling much better. When you get old, you get cold…oh my…did I just say that? 😀
I am babysitting one of my daughter’s two mini-dachshunds this week! So cute these little spoiled terrors! LOL One is a lovely dapple!!! Let the craziness commence!
    Ta ta! (((hugs)))

    • I understand about wishing your kids were close. I have two in New Zealand, one in Canada, one in Melbourne and one in California.. takes me a while to get around them all.. c

      • “Five Little Peppers and How They Grew” by Margaret Sidney. One of my childhood favorites! Technololgy sure is a blessing! Do you skype?
So easy and an inexpensive way to see their sweet faces and hear their laughter!

  3. Morning C. I can’t believe Big Dog wore out his other two coats already! He really must love them! 🙂 You will have so much fun on your trip especially with all that lovely food…I can just hear the MMMM’s already! We freeze and check meats, etc. too when we travel every winter to Kauai…which is a very looong flight but always stays frozen, wrapped in newspaper and a little cooler like yours!
Loved seeing lil Marmelade out in the corn husks with Nanny Boo watching over him…btw, is he a him or a her?
Bon Voyage Cinders! We’ll be looking forward to hearing all about your trip to see your dears!!

  4. I canNOT get over the cuteness of Marmalade and BooNanny! You have inspired me and I’m getting another kitten. This one is only 6 weeks old and I can’t have him until he has been fixed so we are waiting for him to get up to 2 lbs. Kittens are the best! xox

  5. Oh the CUTENESS!! I can hardly stand it. The blue dog and orange cat will be friends for life, I am sure. Nanny Boo has been a wonderful daddy. If your food does not stay frozen, you will have a total feast on the first day, lol. Seriously, newspaper is a wonderful, cheap insulator. We used it for camping …..wrapped in newspaper and then into cooler. Kept our steaks cool for days and days. Bon voyage.

  6. I have “checked” a cooler as baggage, three times now. well-wrapped salmon and a frozen chiller block. keeps the goods semi-frozen ’til arrival.

love seeing old man big dog in his winter gear. the chill, plus wearing my favourite bundling clothes, always put a spring in my step.

and little kitty. so strong. so willing. so fearless.

    corn down!!

    • Thank you fro the cooler info, this is just what i am going to do, i have a wheelie cooler.. I was going to call and ask but if it works for you then that is what I shall do! great! c

  7. I am in (central) California, shuddering at the idea of you coming here with ballet flats and footless tights! I would freeze solid in that outfit right now. We are having a “cold” storm this week . . . it does look warmer on the weekend, though. Hope your visit is lovely and smiling with California sunshine. — a fan

    • I am bringing boots and socks too! Thank you for the tip, last time I looked you were in the eighties but that was a week ago.. I do hope for a little sun! c

  8. Well, Mad has already answered my first Q-to-be: these are contrails in the first photo? ~ surely not out of Chicago? Yes, the view is wonderful, but that was your windbreak also: so hope the ‘breezes’ blow softly. Marmalade so carefully stepping over the husks, such a ‘big’ boy – but would there be snakes or poisonous spiders or other nasties there? [Hmm, one can see I am from Down Under 🙂 !]

    • No, the snakes we have here are not poisonous and I don’t think there are many poisonous spiders either, or none that i have encountered anyway.. no nasties, unless you could the hawks who would definitely take a wee kitten like this, lucky he has such a big protector.. c

      • Lucky Marmalade, lucky Boo! Not ‘amusing’ almost putting one’s hand on a red bellied black snake in one’s flowerbed or realizing that ‘little’ black spider drinking from your garden tap is a ‘redback’ and deadly poisonous 😦 !
