How to make dog biscuits for pigs

“Well!” I hear you say! “Treats for Pigs?”. But every good pig deserves a treat – Especially Our Sheila who survived the Big Chill with A Plomb and the easiest way to train a pig is with treats. Sad but True.

I am the same.

Here is the recipe:

  • 2 cups wholemeal flour
  • 1 cup oatmeal (everyone likes oatmeal)
  • 1 egg (because I have plenty)
  • 1/8 cup flax seeds (I put flaxseeds in everything because they are a happy seed)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (HONEY!)
  • 1/2 cup of peanut butter and some loose peanuts for fun.
  • 1 cup of hot water

Mix, roll out, cut, bake at 320 for an hour, then turn off the oven to dehydrate in the cooling oven. Then turn the oven back on to roast Misky’s roasted potatoes at 400*, (you must try them, they are sublime) but I forgot that the piggie treats were still in there cooling. But all good.  By the time I rescued them they were  just crunchier.  This is what Ton told me anyway.  He likes peanut butter. And he loves these treats.

Life is SO forgiving.

But Boo (Blue) Bad Boo always wins.

Or at the very least – wins a Stick. ( I have to say, that this boy is looking less and less like a pure bred Blue Heeler by the day) .. ah well.

It was a hard day yesterday . A good day. Very cold.  But we were digging out. Each door and each gate had to be released from its frozen bondage. Everyone was returned to their Pre-Storm quarters with their gates to the outside.  Slowly we all resumed: At-Ease. The cord you see running behind Boo (above)  is to the lamp above the tractor trying to warm the mechanism so it would fire.  That did not work. So Our John took up an old fashioned shovel, and like his forebears, dug himself out all the way down the lane.

It took a long time. A long long time. But one man and a shovel can accomplish an awful lot. If he wants to.

And a sensible woman leaves a man to his work at these times. As a sensible man will leave a woman to her work when she is on a mission. Men need to be men too. As much as a woman needs to be a woman. This is where our strength lies. In allowing each other their strength.  In supporting and lifting the strength of others. Picking up where the other falters. This is how a team is built.

Even a team of two is very strong. And a team of one is honed to a point. Have a wonderful day.

  1. Love seeing TonTon and Boo and Sheila out and about. Guess I better check out Blue Heelers to see what they are supposed to look like. Boo looks just plain darling to me. Love his chest epaulets–not the right word, I’m afraid, but Dobermen have them too…chest triangles!! And I loved my Dobe.

  2. Good morning!!! 🙂 🙂
Been real busy these days! Puppies require lots of time! Crate training and teaching sit, down, and sit pretty and shake hands! For a pup who is only going on 8 weeks she is really smart! She is doing very well with potty training too! Up at 2 am and then at 5:30 to go out. Not bad!!! 🙂
Love the photos! Boo is very handsome!!! Looks very Blue Heeler to me!!! Great looking pup!
They all love sticks!!! And balls and frisbees!!! LOL
Today and Thursday….last days of frigid miserable cold. Friday should start our warmer trend! Yay!!!!! Had enough of this cold!!! 30s would feel like a heat wave! It is colder here than in Siberia!!!!
Yep! There are just some things a man has to do…we can do a lot… but the heavy stuff??? Nope! And I am not even going to try. 😉 This is the worst weather for temps in 20 years. Ah hate it!
Oh Marmalade you look so sweet in your cozy basket!!! Gentle Boo and pretty little Marmalade!!! What a lovely pair you are! 😀
Your recipe for dog treats is very much like mine! Much healthier and less expensive than the crap that they try to sell us in the stores. Good mama that you are! A friend of mine sent me a really little dog bone cookie cutter!!! Perfect!!! Mine was a tad too big! I know that the piggies really like those! LOL
I add crushed tomatoes from my garden stores and green beans and peas!!! You can even add pumpkin!!! 😀 My kids’ pups really liked their dog treats that I made for their Christmas presents!!!
Life can be so much fun!!! Especially when it is in the 30s and not -40 to -50!!!! brrrr….
Have a great day eveyone!!! Sooooo looking forward to warmer temps!!!!!
Gotta put the sweater I made out of one my very warm scarves on Summer and take her out to potty!
    Love to all!!! (((((Celi)))))

  3. Thanks for the mention! I made dog biscuits for all the neighbourhood woofers at Christmas. They all love me now; used duck fat. Also included flax seed, oatmeal, wholemeal flour, etc., etc., BTW, watching your weather on BBC news. Scary, c – really scary!

  4. You know, after reading the recipe for piggy snacks, I think they would be good crunchy people snacks, too. Maybe a little sea salt added. Take them walking or hiking. Sweet dose of cuteness, thanks. Boo, who looks enough like a blue healer to pass, is like no other. Who else would take care of a little kitten like he did and still does. He is worth a million bucks and is ‘best in show’ as far as we are concerned. Sheila is a treasure! Remember how she used to strain your patience last summer when she would snack on your flowers and veggies and always getting out. Just love her.

  5. Oh it is great to click on farmy news and be able to laugh . . . every tough body getting on with life!! Sheila obviously content, the dogs enjoying being outside after their cabin fever and Boo, later, very sweetly asleep with his still best mate 🙂 ! A baker I am not but I cannot see why these dog treats would not taste good to a non-sweet loving, non-sweet eating me human ~ me? Like everything that goes into them!!!!! Do hope the temps stay more normal!!!!!!

  6. I bet those piggies loved their treats, so nice of you to make them. So terrible that the eggs are freezing, is it that cold in the coup? Aren’t the chickens cold? It’s nice to see that Marmelade still loves Boo.

  7. You’re so right Celi, I find it always works to water the garden so then we can have some rain !
Congratulations on surviving the horror with A Plomb – not just dear Charlotte… I bet Boo would like one of those treats too… hope he shares with Marmalade, who might not be so keen !
