Your voice echoes when there is snow in the clouds

Yesterday it snowed again. But it was a gentle sweet silent snow that did not last too long. But the clouds sat heavy. Heavy clouds breathing light snow. Like kind gods.

A benevolent uncle kind of snow.

I set about trapping and catching the frostbitten chickens who had run off to the barn before the Bad Storm of 2014, so I could release them  back into the warm chookhouse.  Not the roosters though. The fights would be terrible. And I am not a betting man. So the roosters will have to continue sleeping with pigs.

Evidently there is a lot to be said for having a little one..

So says the very old grandmammy chook.

When Boo plays with his Marmalade Cat, he always holds one of his toys in his mouth.  So when he gets the biting feeling, it is a blue whale and not his kittens foot in his mouth.  I find this interesting. Because this kitten plays rough!

The best time to catch chickens is at night fall. Five of the worst afflicted are now back in the chook house.

Look at that fat cow. Queenie Wineti. Though still technically a heifer. All that extra feed during the cold time is showing. Or is it a calf that is showing? I do hope so. I know the blood tests said both Queenie and Daisy were pregnant but I will be so relieved when I see  the physical evidence of a pregnancy.

Today the forecast is for rain. Rain. RAIN?

Have a lovely day.

Love your friend on the farm,

  1. It’s so cute that Sheila merely opens her mouth for you to popped the egg in. So funny! Shell and all, I assume.
What will happen to the frost bitten combs. Will they fall off?

  2. Rain, indeed! Muckity muckily muck, no? Very funny to see a toothy shark wedged between Boo’s teeth. What a dog. I think someone needs to write a children’s book about him.

  3. Good Morning!
Love love love love the photos of Boo and Marmalade!!!!!! LOL These two are the hit of the photos today! 😀
So glad you were able to get to all the frost bitten chickens! I don’t like to mess with roosters….they are strong and can be very mean! Never met one who was sweet! 😉
It is a beautiful day today! Yay! Warm and so much better than it has been! Summer loves to go outside now! Had her first bath today and experienced the blow dryer! 🙂 She is growing sooo fast!
How exciting!!! New calves soon!!! They are sooo cute when they are little don’t you think? 😀
“Heavy clouds breathing light snow – Like kind gods – A benevolent uncle kind of snow. ” Perfect visual! Yes! 🙂
Baby is sleeping so mommy has some time to surf the net! LOL
Have a great day (((((Celi)))))!!! So happy for your animals! Some warm weather sure feels good to all of us…especially them!
    Good day to the fellowship!!!

  4. It is amazing seeing Boo play with a kitten, especially letting Marmalade attack his face. I had a grumpy matriarch Burmese who’d grab the dogs by the cheek and literally torture them. I think it hurt too much for the poor dogs to pull away. Maybe Boo has extra thick skin 😉

  5. Raining, sloppy, muddy and messy here too! But so thankful for it! We, like you, need a break from the freezing temps!!! xo

  6. Oh C – such BEAUTIFUL pictures! So glad to see you’re still doing wonderfully well on the farm. I enjoy visiting you so, though it’s been a verrrry long time. Happy New Year!

  7. The photos are indeed beautiful Celi, we are warming up too, enough that JT and I were able to scrape most of the thick ice buildup from the side walk, we’re waiting until this afternoon to do the driveway! It’s quite a work out.
Tomorrow is going to be int eh pluses! yay!

  8. I love how the dog places the toy in the mouth. My dog, Cody, does this when he gets overly excited to see one of us, as he has a tendency to want to “mouth”, it helps him not bite. They are such intelligent creatures!

  9. Love the pix of Boo & Marmelade. I (Misfit’s other half) do enjoy reading your blog…feel like I’m reading a book each day. Keep up the good work & the pictures are lovely.
