Thank you Post Mistress: How to make cat treats.

They say it takes a village to raise a child – it seems it takes a postal route to raise a kitten.  This was delivered to my mail box yesterday.  Or it may have been the day before yesterday. Today Our John and I were debating whether it was Wednesday or Thursday.  Ah well I am here. You are here .. all good! Anyway here is how to make cat treats courtesy of the Postmistress!

kitty-treats-004Very popular with everyone! Thank you, Connie.  When these have run out I will have a go at making my own.

Yesterday was cold again. Oh there is a surprise.

All the big birds and a goodly number of sparrows are hiding inside the barn out of the terrible arctic winds eating the pigs oats and barley.

cat-treats-041Can you remember back to the end of summer when I took those shots of our Wood Shed, I call it the Wendy House, and it was loaded with wood. (I just spent quite some time looking back, lost in the summer images from the farmy, looking for the woodshed picture but no luck, however I do feel warmer and a little in awe of the wonderland I get to work in when the summer comes. )

Well we are getting very low on fire-wood and I am told that February is usually colder than January. Yikes.

Well I  don’t have anything exciting to tell you today. Queenie’s face has been licked clean by Daisy but Queenie is too short to reach Daisy’s face, so we are going to have to wait for a thaw to clean the molasses off her head.

The dogs are going stir crazy because it has been too cold to go for a good walk, but I think we get up in the 20’s today so we should be able to get down the back and run off some steam.

The sheep are doing what they do but Meadow made an odd grunt when she got up yesterday afternoon which made me raise my head.  But she is not doing anything unusual so I will watch her closely. I have no idea when she is due but not for a while yet by the look of her.

The Plonkers go to the abbatoir at the end of this month so they have been given the trailer to get used to boarding. Once they are gone my extra feed costs will lower dramatically. I hate having to buy in feed.  Sheila lives mostly on people food.

I will go and see Sheila again today, take her some milk and eggs, she must be missing her usual food.

I hope you have a lovely day. As uneventful as mine would be nice too!

Your friend on the farmy,

celi

  1. Oh, I remember the woodpile getting slimmer and slimmer, and making excuses not to put on another log because I’d only allowed a certain amount for the rest of the night. Shut the stove down tight, just a tiny trickle of air getting in, make them burn slow and hot, squeezing the last of the sunshine out of the wood. But your cold is so extreme, that would be crazy. I hope you have a reliable source of extra wood you can access… Give Sheila my love when you visit her, I miss her smiling face in your photos.

    • I do, oh i do, we are very well dressed with many layers inside as well.. and the fire is only a few coals by morning but this is such a cold winter, and it started so early. Something will come along or if the worst comes to the worst we can turn the gas heating on, but you can imagine how expensive that will be..c

  2. Oh, good – it’s not just me who can’t remember what day it is! School Holiday on Monday, then a snow cancellation on Wednesday left me discombobulated….
Bright, cold sunshine today, with a nasty wind…no Outside Time for the Littles again…We’re going to spend the afternoon making treats for the birds 🙂

  3. Oh how lovely of the post mistress – such a sweet gift and Marmalade clearly loves them!
Stay warm C! I shall think of you when I am out for my run today in the sweltering heat.
    🙂 Mandy xo

  4. What a sweet gift from the post mistress!!! I may have to try my hand at making those—doesn’t look all that difficult and maybe my kitties would like them if they turn out crunchy. They are not enamored with the soft treats at all.

  5. Only 3 degrees here this morning! And after a brief warming spell Sat. and Sun. we are back to freezing temps. So looking forward to SPRING!!! xo

  6. Oh lor! Cold outside is one thing – you can pile on the clothes and move to keep warm. But no wood to heat the House: Quel horreur. I remember only too vividly the awful winter of 1962/3 – frozen up for three months, with the coal lorry buried in a snowdrift at the bottom of the hill. I was ill, and had a new baby to look after. We took the pram, harnessed the dog to a sled and went into the woods to forage for fallen timber. We were lucky enough to find an old railway sleeper (tie), which burns beautifully, because of the pitch in it. We used the open fire to cook on as well. Never do I want to experience cold like that again. Jock says that if we have a long power cut – like the 10 days in 1999/2000 we would decamp to a hotel on the Cote d’Azur!

You can’t decamp your animals, so I hope you have some woods nearby, or at least a supplier willing to come to you.
    Love,
    ViV

  7. 11 degrees here at the moment. Brrr. Looks like Marmalade is lapping up the treats with fervor. How sweet of your postmistress. I know Sheila will be so pleased to see you coming with special food in hand and a mother’s love. 🙂

  8. I haven’t watched much t.v. since we ended our Dish connection (it’s a good thing), but every once in awhile hubby and I will find a good documentary, movie or some other show to watch. Then several weeks ago he came across a show called, “Mountain Men.” I was glued to the t.v. as I watched these three men’s lives, all very different and yet very much the same. All of them trying to stay one step ahead of mother nature so make sure they had plenty of food and wood to get them thru the winter months. Then hubby found a show about a homestead family in Alaska. Three generations living and farming this land. One of the sons and his wife found were running low on wood and being down to about 1 days worth they headed out after a snow storm in search of fire wood. It was that episode that made hubby and I decide that our property must have a few acres of trees and we must have at least 2 seasons worth of wood chopped and ready for use. He is going to be one busy wood chopping man 🙂

Loved seeing your Guinea fowl this morning. They certainly look like they’ve found a nice cozy place to keep warm.

Hope Sheila’s vacation is successful and that she is able to come home soon.

  9. It has been monochrome here all day with constant rain that soaks right into the bones!

On a happier note I’ll borrow that recipe to send to my sister for her cat and two dogs!

  10. I feel chagrined that I didn’t ask how Hairy McLairy was doing, and here he’s been gone a while. Yet I pride myself on keeping tabs on all the creatures. I hope he is happy where he is and has lots of girlfriends, a regular Harem for Hairy.

  11. Morning Miss C. You must be missing Sheila. I miss her too. Take camera house with you? Thanks for the cat treats idea. I’ve always made dog treats…when we had a dog that is, but I’ve never thought of cat treats. Wonder why not. They must be healthier than the store bought ones. 🙂
