Light Sun. Sunlight

The sun poured all over the little farm and all her creatures yesterday.

Molten golden light of sun. The house warmed right up.

Ah, we all said, who cares about the house?.. and stayed outside too long.

Making tracks to and fro in the snow.

Sheila was being very vocal yesterday.  Quite the Queen. Her wound is dry (or frozen solid hard to tell) but the swelling has receded and she has been very active these last few days, galloping about being stern with everyone. The last three nights she has built the highest beds, leaving me very little loose straw for her cover.  She just lies there tucked down into the straw grunting softly as I cover her all up, except her snout. Then I close her doors because I hate a draft don’t you.

She is feeling much better thank you.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Though we are off to a cold start, today is supposed to warm up even more.

Your friend on the farmy

  1. Aha! Azure shadows on the snow = sunlight! Miss Celi, you sound much happier today, and it has communicated itself to your most loveable and intelligent Sheila, the Sapient Pig. Our monsoon front has gone visiting the Solomon Islands for a few days, so we have a little relief from thunder and lightning and the danger of flooding for a few days. Warm sunshine and a stiff breeze off the sea.

  2. Lovely to see Sheila so happy. And I’m glad you’re having a little respite.
We are in the throes of yet another bendy tree soaking storm here, and poor old England and Wales are taking a hell of a battering. I haven’t been out – except to the postbox outside the front door – for two days. Bor-ring.

  3. Hey Ms Celi ~ it’s a lot warmer this morning!! it’s -11 now and it was -22 yesterday morning!!! No
wonder Ms Sheila is a gruntin’ around happier!! She’s a smart girl making her deep bed ~ she’s asking you for an ole down blanket! It’s kinda beautiful here these last few mornings ~ bitter cold, no wind, sun coming up on the eastern rise across all that white snow! At least we have our warm homes these days ~ I so often think of the days when our forefathers lived in the ole log cabins ~ can you imagine -20 weather and terrible winds to blow across the land. And they had little kids and new babies? Oh dear. And I often think of my Mother talking about the bitter cold weather that she and her siblings walked 5 miles along the railroad track to school every morning. ~ One morning it was so bitter cold and windy, the train whistle had frozen up and they didn’t hear it coming till the last moment ~ so by the grace of God, my Mother and my Aunts and Uncles were spared of a horrible tragedy. So this cold weather never bothers me ~ too much I’m thankful for.
So life goes on ~ Ms Sheila is happy! so what else counts!!!!!!! Stay warm Ms Celi ~~
    Carol

    • Wasn’t yesterday just plain cold in the morning then the sun made up for it.. what an amazing story about the kids on the railroad track.. an extraordinary save! Very glad i am not living in a log cabin.. morning carol.. c

  4. love those sunshadows!
ain’t nothing better than spring [or, PRE-spring] sunlight….

and that sheila!….vocal and piling up her strawbed.

    ain’t life grand??!!

  5. It’s the sunlight that revives one’s spirit. You can see the length of those shadows and feel the warmth on your face. And feel like life is starting to return.

When I first moved here I’d look at these people in the middle of winter, with the temperature well below zero and deep snow all around, standing in lee of the wind between buildings, facing the sun with their fur coats wide open and their faces turned up to the late winter sun like a row of sunflowers. They had a contented, dreamy look on their faces and I used to think they must be outpatients from the psych ward or something. However, they were ordinary people and I couldn’t fathom why they’d do it, especially coming from Australia where we avoid direct sunlight like the plague. But after I few years of incredibly long, dark winters I finally understood that need to soak up those precious rays. This winter, we haven’t seen the sun since early November. Three long, dark months 😦

Lovely to hear that Sheila is feeling better. And even better to hear that you sound more upbeat as well. That sun came in the nick of time. Can you send it our way as well?

  6. Ms Celi, Hey it’s much warmer this morning ~ it’s only -11 ~ yesterday morning it was -22 here!! So the warm front is on the way! No wonder Ms Sheila is gruntin’ around happier! it warmed up! Funny how she makes that deep straw bed ~ but she’s also askin’ you for an ole down blanket to throw over her! But at least in this cold weather we have warm homes and food on our tables. I often think of our forefathers living in those log cabin homes ~ can you imagine in this kind of bitter cold weather and then the winds roaring thru ~ with those little kids and new babies? I’m reminded of how often my Mother talked about walking 5 miles to school along the railroad tracks ~ one morning when it was so bitter cold and she and her siblings were walking in a blizzard ~ the train whistle had frozen so they didn’t hear it coming and could hardly see ~ but at the last minute they realized the train was so close ~ they made it off the track ~ so by the grace of God they were all spared of a horrible tragedy ~ and I still had a Mother and Aunts and Uncles! They were 8 kids walking to school! So I always feel like I have so much to be thankful for! So life goes on ~ Ms Sheila is feeling better and has some real grunts in her! Stay warm Celi ~

  7. Happy days for Sheila! And for you, I imagine. As Viv said, we’re getting 80mph wind gusts and horizontal rain here. Feels like the roof might blow off. I’m ready for a holiday.
