Yesterday a friend came around and helped me build Tima’s orchard pen. Actually it is more of a small field than a pen. It is quite large and encompasses two old apple trees and both old cherry trees so she will have piles of shade and grass to lie about in. Though it is lovely to have her wandering about the garden she is not very clever about traffic. She can come out with me when I am in the garden, but she needs a safe home when I am otherwise engaged.
No bastard minks in the traps.
But all the chickens survived the night in their respective chicken tractors. The dogs are roaming from one to the other during the night and the chooks are literally a stones throw from my bedroom window.
Daisy gave just over 10 gallons of milk.
I collected 14 eggs (down a bit but they are still adjusting to the new living arrangements).
And Marcel and the two bobbies were observed chasing each other about the field in high spirits. Queenie rolled her eyes and went back to finding just a little more grass.
The asparagus is heaving up out of the ground and soon I will be picking rhubarb. Bliss.
It just occurred to me that once I have cleaned out the chook house, I could let Poppy and Sheila hang out in there for the summer (after I have trapped whatever visits in there each night), before I line the walls to make it into a farrowing shed. It opens into their favourite field after all. Hmm. There is an idea.
Nothing was in the traps this morning. All the hens are happy in their new houses. All the four legged animals are happy in their fields. A good morning (though I am a wee bit late with posting though I know you don’t mind – you are The Fellowship!)
I hope you all have a lovely day.

if sheila! would just sit on the minks that would take care of your problem!
she could knock out quite a few.. all in one SIT! c
This reminded me of the shot of a frolicking bobby you posted earlier this week. That was a happy shot. Tima looks right at home. Glad the chickens are adapting to their new surroundings–and all accounted for!
Oh Ugh C. I hope the BMTs work soon….what if you put the chicken carcass right inside the trap? Well, at least now your chickens will be safe now in their new home!
Feel kind’of sorry for Nanny Boo – all the ‘kids’ growing up and leaving the nursery 🙂 !
My pig, Percy is in a pen by himself also. It is within the larger paddock so he has the donkey and goats and chickens all around him. When I’m in the yard I do let him out to wander around but now every time he sees me outside he starts shrieking, pig talk for ‘let me out’ I’m sure. He has a BFF in my schnoodle, Mac but our wirehair griffon, Eli, is a bit too enthusiastic yet so they have to take turns in the (fenced) backyard. Hopefully Eli will calm down soon though at 2-1/2 he’s still more puppy than anything, then they can all enjoy the backyard at the same time. Too bad we’re so far apart, Percy and TIma could have a play date – haha. I do have to find him some skin oil, he has awfully dry skin. Your grass looks wonderful, ours has barely started growing yet so Percy is making do with some alfalfa.
I am glad he is eating his alfalfa, my hay is really not that good and Tima has decided it is such rubbish she would not even waste spit on it.. the other pigs eat it though and Tima eats her bird food.. sigh.. love that percy is settling in.. these are very very social pigs.. c
Our hay is not that good either but for the equines and goats a grassy mix is what you want. I actually had to buy some alfalfa as Percy turned up his cute little nose at what we have! You are correct, they are very social and have amazing personalities and besides, seeing him gallop across the yard is as comical as watching a chicken run!
I know, i just laugh.. I might call my hay man and see if i can get a Good bale for Tima..cheeky piggies! c
I’m glad to hear that things are settling and that the animals are happy and the chickens safe. It must be a relief for you.
Onwards and upwards! Glad you had a good day and all the stock are accounted for! Maybe Sheila might make short work of the bastard mink?
I am so happy to see warm weather in your part of the world. It’s amazing how quickly it goes from bleak to hope.
Who would have thought there was snow everywhere just a few weeks ago.
Have a happy Sunday C.
