Yesterday the children and I released the old chooks into the big barn across the way.
They gravitated towards the central area, where there was straw and with the children playing amongst them they all looked so natural and happy. The children are delighted with their new friends who are now laying four eggs a day!. 
The little dog on the property has shown a bit too much interest in the birds and tomorrow I will cover the holes in the barn so he cannot get in. They look like such a small flock in such a large barn. 
Freedom at last they are thinking!
Can you see the pergola running along the front of the house. When the timber is dried it will be stained the same colour as the screened in porch. The Coupe (the addition on the left with the Goldilocks windows ) is now available for Farm Stays during the summer. I will discuss this more in my developing page called OPPORTUNITIES (it will sit up there beside the About page) though it is developing because life is like that. The little loft apartment is perfect for a one person retreat and we all know I need the help on the farm!! If you are interested let me know in the comments and I will email you.
For some unknown reason the weather has turned cold. Absolutely nobody is happy about it.
However there you are, if you try and fight the weather it becomes doubly miserable.
The sun will come back and in the meantime we are getting lots of good rain and many of you are needing rain so badly it would be churlish of me to complain.

Cold and rainy here on the fringes of Chicago – but everywhere is green, green, green!
We have cold nights here in Oklahoma lately but the days do warm up in the 70’s so I can’t complain much. I will definitely want to come visit your neck of the woods, but I’m not sure when. FD and I are planning a fabulous trip to NYC to watch a special niece from Nebraska perform at Carnegie hall this summer – I’m afraid that trip will cost us a pretty penny. Like you, our extra money is usually funneled back into the ten acres we have here to make improvements. So, money to travel will be tight… but I will definitely be willing to work for my keep while I’m there!! YAY! Something exciting to look forward to!
Ok, so I’m reading a book that keeps bringing you to mind! It’s called “One Woman Farm” – my life shared with sheep, pigs, chickens, goats and a fine fiddle – and it’s written by Jenna Woginrich. It is a beautiful book, filled with drawings and short, interesting chapters, each one easy to read in a few stolen minutes here and there. If you haven’t read it you truly must! 🙂
Oh she finally wrote it? Good for her. I bought one of her CSAs one year for wool from her sheep, she has great money making ideas. I have followed her blog for ages, but haven’t looked for a while….too busy coming here instead *)

The blog is Cold Antler Farm, or was the last time I read it. It’s been a while since I dropped by there. She has some terrific ideas, just a little intense sometimes. I think that might be her 2nd (or even 3rd) book.

The Coupe really stands out as being beautifully well made and designed in that picture. It’s all in the shape of the roof and windows along with the white and grey walls 😉

It has been about 20º C today with more to come. It didn’t even get cold this last winter – you got it all!

Our nasty cold snowy weather has made it to you. Terrible stuff. But today we are a tad warmer. Which is lovely. I am planting even. And Fuzzy has decided that he and Boomer need to be outside so I will let them tonight. He is just so old I hate for him to get chilled. By Saturday we will be in the 80s with 50* at night. Finally! I sure hope setteled weather has come to stay. If it is here, then soon it will move to the interior of the map and on to you.

The inside of that barn and the way the rafters are made are just beautiful. Do you know when it was built? Good to see your home from the yard side. Very, very nice. Maybe a map with pins to show where the fellowship reside.
You are such a long way from where I live, but I would find it incredibly refreshing to be that close to the land. It doesn’t hurt to dream! I’ll just keep that wonderful idea tucked away as a little dream note! I’d be glad to stay in the barn, so there you go! 🙂

For some unknown reason the weather has turned cold.
Celi….. the reason IS well known. It’s called Climate Change. Everyone thinks that Climate Change is just warming the planet, but in your neck of the woods, it’s creating chaotic climate. The Jetstream has been going haywire in Nth America because the Arctic ice is melting. Recently in Texas, two towns whose names mean nothing to this Aussie and I can’t remember had temperatures that wer fifty degrees apart!

A change of scenery has benefits for everyone, even chooks it seems. I would love to bring the G.O. for a farmy stay in the Coupe – we would fit, and he’d be very handy – I’m not sure about me… but he just won’t fly beyond domestic flights, and even that takes some persuading, but I can dream.
