If You drive down here into my back yard and complain about the HEAT I will bite my thumb at you! There. That will show them.

The chickens across the Way .. my official farm name is Kelly Creek Farms… so I call the big barn across the way – Kelly Creek Barn. Now you will know where I am talking about. Anyway the chickens Across the Way at the Kelly Creek Barn are now allowed out in the evenings. They are very well behaved chickens and dutifully return to their own barn in the evenings. Plus they are laying marvellously for the family who lives next to Kelly Creek Barn. The children love to collect the eggs. Unlike the ramshackle bunch I have over here at the Home Barn. 
Because it was gloriously hot yesterday I let the chickens out in the late afternoon and lo and behold the Roosters swooped in and Ran Off with them. I got only FIVE chickens back. How I am going to sort this out I do not know. After dark I took the torch and the dogs and searched every lost chicken out and every single one of them is Way Up High in the home barn with a rooster by her side. Apparently only the wall flowers returned to their little tin shack. And I have too many roosters or not enough -if you are wall flower. Letting them out was an error. 
Aunty Del has designed a new Halloween mask. I’m scared!

Good grief, those randy roosters have kidnapped your girls! Hilarious and inconvenient, I’m sure. Ungrateful hussies, eschewing their beautiful metal hut for a little nooky. tsk tsk tsk

The eternal attraction of the bad boys versus the safe, comfortable home! That’s a very superior chook tractor, ma’am. Looks like it could withstand anything.
Even me, I just spent the better part of an hour shifting it to the barn with the tractor and it is still in one piece. Easier to catch the girls and they will have shade over there.. c
Comical! Wall Flower chickens..hehe And those two noses would make a great wall print. That is just priceless!
After raising guineas and teaching them to come back to the barn, teaching my chickens to come back in at night was easy, but at first it takes two to round them up during the teaching period. I let mine out about 9:30 am (seems the fox has went back home by that time) and put them back in at dusk, before the raccoons and coyotes come out.
For years the chooks have gone back into their lovely chook house without any problems, but of course the Mink ran us out. Poor old chickens are just generally confused.. c
The weather has turned absolutely wonderful! I am happy to report that our house painting was finished yesterday except for the doors which will be done today thanks to the gorgeous weather. Yay!!! Your lovelies all look like they are so very happy! Thanks for the Marmalade shot!
Oh thank goodness, that must be great to have the paint on .. doesn’t it make the world of difference.. c
YES! I did not realize how bad it was till it was all repainted. Whew. And we did it ourselves which is even a better thing in many ways.
I too am glad it’s warming up. It’s good for the soul! I just learned of a program you might be interested in (although you seem to handle everything so well by yourself I’m in awe). Some of our local farms have WWoofer’s. These are people who volunteer to work on organic farms. They only work for room and food. I think you would be such a great teacher, I wanted to let you know. I have been meaning to ask if Egoli is still with us 🙂 although I have difficulty telling the difference between Egoli and LuLu. Seems the weatherman was right, so glad you are warming up properly, I am shivering under overcast skies and a horrible windy 19C today. My turn for the winter woollies. Laura
Yes that is Egoli! He is very much bigger than the others.. he is watching the barn swallows pretending to be reclining.. c
Please remind me who are Egoli and Lulu. I’m embarrassed that I can’t remember. On another subject, your farm could be the destiny of many a field trip for local schools. You could charge a minimal tour fee and educate kids on true farming. You certainly have TONS of attractions! I wouldn’t even mention such an idea, but Cecilia, you have to admit to boundless energy.
As we have three ginger cats they are not hard to mix up. Egoli is the big one with the golden eyes. LuLu is the little one whose sister was Author (lost last summer) and then there is Marmalade who you do know but who looks EXACTLY like LuLu.. even i have to look twice at those two! c
Aunty Del is seriously scary. Naughty chickens, but you know what happens in Springime – a young man’s fancy and all that. It’s wet and windy again here, so enjoy your warm weather while you can.
