Garden of Cecilia

I was going to use the title ‘Garden of Eden’ but it made no sense, there are still plenty of weeds! garden-pictures-015Do you think they had weeds in the Garden of Eden? When I was a child I wondered who Eden was and how she managed to be such a great gardener.  Obviously she was not Eve. Eve was not much off a gardener evidently.  Just a chip off the old rib. Which of those disciple blokes came up with the rib thing! My mother could have told me, she knew the Bible inside out. garden-pictures-013

I just crop my images hard, so it looks better. We all do that don’t we in our minds eyes. Thank goodness. If we saw everything as a whole all the time we would never be able to rest! It’s a seventh day thing.  I was brought up in a staunchly religious family – I can say those kinds of things. garden-pictures-002

This is where we all get to sing “One of these things is not like the other, One of these things just doesn’t belong… ”

But this is a beauty. garden-pictures-024

Every year Our John and his mother (The Matriarch) have a race to see who can grow the first tomato for the Fourth of July. It will be close.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

  1. Pretty flowers. The tomato race is fun. We’ll have to wait and see who reaches the finish line first.

  2. I’m pretty sure there are weeds in every garden including Eden – the only exception being my mother-in-law’s garden, where they don’t stand a chance. The words and images of Celi’s Garden have a happy ring to them. I love cropped flower pics, they make lovely postcards.

  3. I am eating cherry tomatoes here from a Sun Gold plant I bought at the Farmers’ Market in San Leandro and planted around February 21. Not too many yet — just a few each day. There are over a hundred blossoms on that plant, which continues to grow and grow — it wants to take over the entire fenceline, shading its competitors. The raised-from-seed tomato farthest away from the Sun Gold has its first blossoms now and may have tomatoes by sometime in June. But none of my flowers have bloomed, only beans and tomatoes. Your iris and lilac are gorgeous. Love the header photo.

    • I especially love the cherry tomatoes, which reminds me, i wonder if John planted some. your garden is coming along wonderfully, must be all that tender loving care from you too, and your music i imagine! c

      • I have had to leave my wonderful garden, which had two-inch butternut squash on the vines and tiny green beans too small to pick the day I left. With any luck, my ex-landlord or a friend might take care of it. My heart is broken. All I have is a couple of tomato seedlings (not Sun Golds) and a couple of pepper plants that I was able to take with me.

        • Oh NO, Sharyn, that is miserable. i have always found gardens harder to leave than houses. Until i married John I only ever rented my homes. I know exactly how you feel. What incredibly bad luck.. c
