Antiquated

The little internet man with the big truck mumbled as he climbed up our tower and ran new cables and new thingumebobs and muddled about in the basement and voila not only do I have internet again but it is Faster!

Excellent!

We have had a nicely busy few days.

Kim who is supposed to be having a farm stay vacation will not sit still and not only has she done her couple of hours of mandatory weeding but has almost finished building the little coop. gone-018 gone-020

Tima has been invited to visit the local library tomorrow. They are having a summer programme  with an animal theme. I will call today to say yes. gone-029

A vagabond Woofer called me and asked if she could come and work for a few days in exchange for a roof and some food and a little farm experience. I will write today to say Yes.  gone-007

It rained on the vegetable gardens and I don’t even have any hay on the ground and I  said YES. We are having quite a few little storms but nothing severe at all.

Today Queenie and Daisy begin their hormone shots to bring them into heat on the day my Lady Vet can come and breed them.  Daisy is being bred to a Shorthorn bull.  Now that we have Aunty Del I do not need to breed Daisy to a dairy cow ..gone-011She is being crossed with a beef bull.  Queenie is being bred to a Hereford of course.  They have a shot this Thursday, next Thursday and then next Sunday morning.. breeding day.

Good morning. The meat chickens will be placed in the chicken tractor today and will begin to be pulled about the pasture gobbling up all that tasty clover.  The tin they have their milk on  (see above) is actually the roof of their rain shelter within the trailer they are living in now.  I hope they are looking forward to getting out into the elements!  We are firing on all cylinders!

I hope you have a lovely day. I am so glad to be back in touch again!

Your friend on the farmy,

  1. Wish those meat chickens would peck their way over here, nearer to Chicago, to peck away all the clover that has sprouted on our little acreage. We are getting what I think are part of the same storm system here. Great claps of thunder and streaks of lightening and much needed rain last night. 🙂

  2. Isn’t it wonderful when there are days that are perfect. Tima will be such a hit at the library.

  3. I am having a grand time here on the farmy. The accommodations are a delight! The Coupe is a wonderful oasis of calm and C is an absolute chef in the kitchen. She made bread yesterday which I had for an afternoon snack with a little pear and cheese…yumm. And last night, we had a delicious meat pie with loads of veggies on the side. I will not starve here. I mentioned that I had a sweet tooth and she is making ice cream tomorrow! The smell of the yogurt that is draining in the kitchen, made of course with Daisy’s milk, made me swoon a little. If you have ever smelled a cheesecake straight out of the oven, it smells like that, only richer, richer, richest! There is a mulberry tree with ripening berries. If I pick enough berries, perhaps I can convince her to make a pie.

I volunteered to put the coop together. The directions said it would only take two hours. Of course, it took more like six hours, but it was great fun. I puttered about reading the instructions, looking at the pictures and identifying the pieces and assembling them. It was really not hard, but I wanted to make sure to do a good job, so I took my time. I was in the shade of the garage which was nice and then the storm blew in and brought a very nice cool breeze. I’m from Texas. We don’t get those kind of breezes in June, November maybe. Hopefully, we can get the coop placed in its new home this afternoon and get the new layers transferred over. Apparently, there will be much chicken shifting going on today. Should be interesting 🙂

It is so fun to meet Sheila and Poppy and the gang and the of course, Tima. I was washing dishes this morning and heard this noise on the porch. It was Tima coming up the steps, knocking things around as she went. She sauntered into the house, pushing the screen door open, looked around for C, didn’t find her and waited for me to open the door so she could continue on her rounds. A few scratches and pets were given before she left tho. She is cute as a button.

  4. Missed you! Been away myself whilst my daughter was here last week. She went back Sunday and I am missing her like crazy! Trying to catch up with things in the garden, picking and freezing peas and beans. Need to pull beets and shallots and get them pickled too. Everything seems to be ready at the same time this year!

  5. It seems like the Farmy is stepping into its rhythm, and it feels good. Wonderful, as I imagine John is working long days, that you have [human] company and assistance. I read Kim’s comment, and thought what a wonderful opportunity for anyone, but particularly a Farmy Commenter already familiar, to be there, like stepping into the pages of a much loved book 🙂 Sometimes, the good times, it seems like what I read is a lovely story with marvelous characters, and I have to remember that for you it’s real life … the trying times, the washing basket moments do that.

  6. What a splendid day you have had. I’m wishing you every success with the hormones and with the lady vet’s activities. Lovely for you to have your internet back. I’m struggling to instal the new laptop with my wi-fi – this is coming to you on the old laptop, but I’ll have another go tomorrow. Love, ViV x

  7. That little coop is a work of art. So glad that you have help coming in to the farm. Pregnancies are imminent, the chickens are growing apace, the grass is green and lush and your internet connection is restored and now faster. All good news!

  8. Wonderful that you are on line again!! These days I would be totally lost without the ‘outside connection’ as all my shopping is ordered that way. No towers anywhere in the vicinity [I believe we are supposed to use a TV tower half-way to Sydney?? – I use ADSL2 and find it lightning fast 90% of the time . . . . Hope Tima enjoyed her celebrity stint at the library 🙂 !

  9. Internet and faster–YIPPEE! The coop looks good! I hope Tima’s celebrity status doesn’t go to her head!
