Sustainable means…

… SMALL. sustainable-009So small that we do not take from the land more than the land can give. sustainable-006It is in fact impossible to live a truly sustainable life. sustainable-016But many of you and I are giving it a damn good try.  But sustainable has become a trendy word, a catch all of nothing.  Trendy. I hate to be trendy, don’t you? Once, a sales-woman in a dress shop came up behind me and looked at the coat I was looking at. She said in her high pitched sales voice, “That is  such a popular line.  All the girls are buying those, they are really trending.”Needless to say I put it back on the rack and left it there!sustainable-039

My big fat pig who goes for a run twice a day and is certainly not over-fed prefers: Old Fashioned.

Don’t you love Sundays!

Have a lovely day.

  1. I wish we could be more sustainable … Nice to dream! 🙂
And I too dislike being ‘on trend’! I have no idea why someone would think “All the girls have one of these” would be a selling point …

  2. She’s not fat, she’s traditionally-built. For endurance and comfort, not speed. Everything moves too fast anyway. I’d rather mend a garment I love and wear a lot than throw it out and buy something new and nasty. I like to fix things that are damaged or broken and I loathe built-in redundancy.

  3. Yes, it is so hard to have a sustainable farm. But, I can say we rarely buy food at the grocery store these days, and that is a wonderful feeling. And knowing what we are eating and that our fruits and veggies are pesticide free is fabulous. And we are getting better at putting food up and preserving. Slowly improving and working on sustainability on our little farmy. xoxoxo

  4. I hate trendy too – especially the trendy diets of some of our guests.
    Enjoy your Sunday

  5. I totally agree with you on how the word “sustainable” has become trendy! I love that picture of Sheila! She must have a very kind soul.
    Enjoy your day!

  6. when looking in a shop I get really irritated when shop assistants hover around me…nothing makes me exit quicker. If I want help I will ask. I don’t need unwanted help……Sheila is as beautiful as any pig can be ad so human like

  7. I love the feed sack fly dispersers…is that a word? Well, I guess it is now! 🙂 Good girl Tima, lapping up her spilt milk and look at that calendar girl Sheila! Gorgeous! Happy Sunday!

  8. Because I’m in Marketing, “trend-y” isn’t a bad word. I love positive trends…things like people buying local and organic. Or community vegetable gardens popping up in empty lots. We’re also into Green building – another ‘trendy’ (and now, legislated) field. I love it that we can build a house in a crazy climate zone (below 30 in the winter, above 110 in the Summer), and have them end up with only a $15 energy bill at the end of a YEAR. We all do what we can to put back into the Stream more than we take out. Some of us can put back only a little (like, by the ways I described above). Others can put back a lot – like the millions one star contributes to clean seas. Maybe it’s just a matter of personality, or how it is framed. Some of us are just born contrary (like me! LOL) All of these little trends come together to make one big tapestry, if enough of us are adding in. Let’s keep the faith!

  9. We try to give back to the land more than we take. Living simply is my trend nowadays, too. Love Sheila and Tima…..grand souls. We are surrounded by heavy smoke and conflagration from lightning storms last week.
