All good

I took this photo of the fruit bowl last night and then the internet went down.  So I could not get ahead of myself.

And I am late in from the chores this morning.  Grace, fom Korea, has come and is sleeping in this morning and Berit is driving back from visiting with his family in Chicago. The fencing man is due any minute and the harvest table is covered with tomatoes, zuchinni and onions.

The bread is rising.

I am still hoping to be able to talk to the vet sometime soon about Daisy. Her other healthy  quarters have dropped production so dramatically that I think this may be a good opportunity to dry the cow up. I have got as much fluid out of the sick quarter as I can, it takes quite a while due to the swelling that I think it  is very slowly reducing.

Tima has been very naughty. Late yesterday afternoon after picking up Grace from the train which was late of course, I loaded the groceries into thekitchen then, hoping someone would put them away, I went straight back out to unload the chook food and milk the cow and feed the animals.  It was getting late.  Bad Tima got to the groceries before anyone else and managed to eat two bunches of bananas and a bag of apples before she was discovered and sent to bed without any supper… of course.

Now I must run and see how many tomatoes  I can get into the crock pot, try the vet again, make a quick quiche for lunch, do some fast repairs of the meat chickens ark (they leave tomorrow morning) and hang out the laundry  before the fencing man gets here and we start working with wire. I  hate working with wire.  It seems to me that I should be at least two people today. But our lunch will be delicious.  Caramalised onion quiche.

I hope you have a lovely busy day.

Your friend on the farmy

  1. You just gotta love that Tima. Like a naughty lovable child who always gets into trouble at the wrong time. She was only trying to help, Celi Mom.

  2. Poor Tima! I had a Siamese cat in Georgia who would rip open food bags to get at raw meat while I was bring the shopping in from the car. I’ve never had another cat like him and, of course, I was very careful after the first time. He played havoc with the local squirrel population, but at least he ate them rather than just torturing them 😉

  3. Wow C! after reading your post I had to sit and rest… hehehehe! You are wonderwoman. Take care and share the recipe for that delicious quiche, I think I can smell it from here 😉

  4. Oh MY goodness. I’m thankful you get two trips to New Zealand, it sounds like you need a vacation! Hopefully Grace and Berit will be a big help this week. Tima…she can really put some food away! I bet she would have eaten dinner too if you had offered it. Oh, and I’ve tried that trick of leaving things because I had other things to do hoping that someone else would do the things I left…ha, right. 😉

  5. You really are a whirlwind today. I hope you’re giving yourself enough time to eat that yummy lunch… I’m with you on wire, it’s a beast to work with, but it does the job. And as for that Tima, she gives pigs a bad name. Bad greedy little girl!

  6. Am thinking of the size of Tima and equating it with two bunches of bananas and a bag of apples: where the hell did she put it !!? I would not be giving her breakfast, lunch or supper today either 🙂 !! Hope Grace woke up and Berit got back to help you just a tad with today’s chores . . . you may say you like to be under pressure but perchance your bodily organs may not always be in accord . . . ?

  7. Our day was busy like that. It was a CSA share day to prepare for, a delivery, and then they’re predicting 3 inches of rain tomorrow, which means bushels of potatoes, and green beans needed to be harvested, and the melons and all the flowers in bloom that would otherwise be ruined in the rain. All now safely chilling in our walk-in cooler. Ahhh, finally, day is done. Tomorrow we do greenhouse work!

  8. I cooked all day long and I’m beat… but naughty Tima had me laughing so hard that FD had to come back here to see what all of the racket was about! Ya gotta lover her… truly! I admire you for all you get knocked out in a day! Surely tomorrow will slow down a bit? Do you ever get a break?

  9. I do hope your “helpers” realize that to learn about what it is like to live on your small farm, you have to rise before dawn and keep moving until you drop into bed at night. They will quickly find that you work like a fiend and that “sleeping in” could cause them to miss half more than half the days activities.
Naughty Tima, all those ‘nanas & apples might give her a belly ache to remember – even little pigs are such pigs!
All your amazing productivity & today’s schedule on the farmy is daunting & I am throughly ashamed that I am daudling over my coffee this morning as I read blog posts and am now compelled to get my tush in gear & accomplish something in my World today. Then at the end of the day I can say I got a few things done so I don’t feel like a total sloth. I hope you get to talk to the vet today & that Daisy is well enough to start drying up. It sounds like the antibiotics have made a dent in the infection which is good news. Good luck teaching your “helper” to be helpful. I suspect that when she see what you have to get done in one day, her definition of “Work Ethic” may be redefined.
