He is not far wrong.

Daisy is starting to settle down and Poppy is beginning to look like a proper pig.

fencing-003

We worked on the fencing Across the Way at the Big Barn yesterday.

Unearthing old gateways.  And treasure – a beautiful old water pump. (see header image)

Returning the pathways the animals will follow to the old ways of grazing for their food and walking back up for their water.

Gracey was helping me clear this shelter belt so we could tuck the electric fence right under it for maximum shade.  She said to me, as she struggled to cut a branch. ” I think I like the kitchen best”. We had been talking the night before about finding the area on the farm that suits you best and making that your focus.  “That is wonderful”, I said. Trying to hide my big, big smile.  And so I took her back to the house and she worked in the garden and in the kitchen and made a feast for dinner. She said this was the first time that she had made this without her mother.

Theses are stuffed with home grown  pork, garlic, cabbage, peppers and onions. She made the wraps herself too. And made an “instant kimchi”..with the sauces she had brought with her,  it was wonderful. She said to me. “When I am in The Korea. I go shopping for ingredients in the supermarket. Here I shop in your garden.”

What a compliment.

fencing-076

She made JJin Mandoo and Goon Mandoo. One is boiled and one is fried. She ate smiling and thanked me for letting her cook in the kitchen because this was the first time since she came to America that she ate Korean food. Thanked ME the crazy girl. I was thanking HER!

The Professor is not as well as he could be. fencing-019

Boo is worried-  as am I.

fencing-021

I have wormed him and begun to add pumpkin and oil to his meat.  It could be just a diet change problem but his belly is quite distended, his eyes are dull and he is not as active as Manouchki.

fencing-026I will be watching him carefully.

On a brighter note. Daisy’s lady vet called and Daisy is bred.  So, if all goes well she is on her way to being the farm nurse cow. But Queenie is open, which means she is not pregnant.  We fully expected the opposite.  But the vials of blood were labelled correctly. So on Monday I will order more sperm for Queenie and we will start her again.

Today we fence some more. But now that our dear Berit has gone, I am the Fencers right hand man.  So today will be a good days work.

I hope you have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy,

celi

    • as usual this kind of thing happens on the weekend, but he will be a barn cat so he does need to be a robust individual, lets hope he gets better.

  1. How lovely that Grace has found her ‘thing’ and that it’s a thing you can enjoy too! Tima is getting to be so big, but she still has those fascinating pricked up ears. I love her naughty woolly face…

  2. I love the sad expression on Boo’s face. How wonderful to come in from working outdoors to a tasty meal ready and waiting for you. You deserve it Celi. May there be many more.

  3. Store bought wormers do not take care of all the parasites a kitty can have. Perhaps the vet could prescribe a wormer for the Professor?

  4. What a beautiful post. I think I would like to invite Gracie to live in Milan with me. I would be hiding smiles all over the place. Her food looks fantastic and I love it that she “buys” it from your garden. Best wishes for the Professor. He has to pull through. Because no community is complete with just a nanny and a terrorist.

  5. Ok, I had to google kimchi, jjin mandu and goon mandu …. now I am very hungry. They all sound delicious. Sorry the Prof isn’t feeling well. Queenie says “what? you want me to do that all again” that old pump is a treasure. Laura

  6. Fencing is one of my toughest jobs here in stony, rugged New England. If I could find someone else to do it, I’d probably be very happy in the kitchen, too! 😉

  7. I love kimchi. We buy it at the Chinese supermarket. When my boys were young, it was their favourite treat as both well remembered their food from Korea. Happy weekend, c, and best wishes for the entire farmy.

  8. Now we are all worried about Professeor! Hopefully your tender loving care with be the cure. Boo does look worried. How wonderful that Grace was able to cook up some delicious Korean food just perfectly. That made me smile and I know it made her smile. She is one amazing young lady to take on this experience. I have no doubt she is learning much and will be a lifetime friend. How wonderful for both of you.

  9. Very exciting about the Korean food! It looks fabulous! And wonderful that Grace will be doing some of the cooking!!! A wonderful break for you Celi!!! 🙂

  10. I hope The Professor gets better. Is that pump functional and linked to a well at the barn across the way? Beautiful food Grace. It looks delicious. Next time you go shopping in C’s garden, you may have to bargain with Tima the Terrorist for your dinner. Have a wonderful day at the farmy!

  11. C. tell Grace that jinn mondu is my favorite…I like to dip it in a mixture of soy sauce, vinegar and sesame seeds…Yum! You two are so lucky to have found each other! Isn’t it amazing how our paths cross with certain people in our lives? I mean who knew that a lovely young lady from Korea and a lovely young lady from New Zealand would meet on a farm in the midwest of the US?
You have another TTT in the family! Tima the Terrorist! 🙂 I love the farmy photos today….
