The Fencer calls Tima – The Terrorist.

He is not far wrong.

Daisy is starting to settle down and Poppy is beginning to look like a proper pig.

fencing-003

We worked on the fencing Across the Way at the Big Barn yesterday.

Unearthing old gateways.  And treasure – a beautiful old water pump. (see header image)

fencing-056

Returning the pathways the animals will follow to the old ways of grazing for their food and walking back up for their water.

Gracey was helping me clear this shelter belt so we could tuck the electric fence right under it for maximum shade.  She said to me, as she struggled to cut a branch. ” I think I like the kitchen best”. We had been talking the night before about finding the area on the farm that suits you best and making that your focus.  “That is wonderful”, I said. Trying to hide my big, big smile.  And so I took her back to the house and she worked in the garden and in the kitchen and made a feast for dinner. She said this was the first time that she had made this without her mother.

Theses are stuffed with home grown  pork, garlic, cabbage, peppers and onions. She made the wraps herself too. And made an “instant kimchi”..with the sauces she had brought with her,  it was wonderful. She said to me. “When I am in The Korea. I go shopping for ingredients in the supermarket. Here I shop in your garden.”

What a compliment.

fencing-076

She made JJin Mandoo and Goon Mandoo. One is boiled and one is fried. She ate smiling and thanked me for letting her cook in the kitchen because this was the first time since she came to America that she ate Korean food. Thanked ME the crazy girl. I was thanking HER!

The Professor is not as well as he could be. fencing-019

Boo is worried-  as am I.

fencing-021

I have wormed him and begun to add pumpkin and oil to his meat.  It could be just a diet change problem but his belly is quite distended, his eyes are dull and he is not as active as Manouchki.

fencing-026I will be watching him carefully.

On a brighter note. Daisy’s lady vet called and Daisy is bred.  So, if all goes well she is on her way to being the farm nurse cow. But Queenie is open, which means she is not pregnant.  We fully expected the opposite.  But the vials of blood were labelled correctly. So on Monday I will order more sperm for Queenie and we will start her again.

Today we fence some more. But now that our dear Berit has gone, I am the Fencers right hand man.  So today will be a good days work.

I hope you have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy,

celi

  1. I agree with Linda. Worm them both with something stronger than strongid– is that what you have on the farm? If the vet lady takes a sample she can give you the right meds for the right worm. I’d to Boo as well, since he’s ben their nursemaid.

    • Yes, they were wormed when 4 weeks old, and again at 10 weeks, with a product from the vets, this is not storebought worming fluid. He is getting the best care we can give him..

      • I’m sorry if I implied that you would not take excellent care of your animals, I’ve never seen a farmer take such good care of their animals. I read your posts every day, Miss C.
What I meant was that the usual worm medication used by vets doesn’t kill all worms, so you might need something different. It’s just habit to stick my nose in when there’s a problem regarding veterinary medicine.
        Much love.

        • oh no, That is fine – I do appreciate it, just thought if you had all the info it might help, though as the little tyke has died I am thinking it was a flu.. hit very fast.. c

  2. Does the tiny Professor have a temperature? 103.5 is considered above normal in cats. I do hope he rallies, as he really doesn’t look well at all in his photo.

  3. Tina is pretty, whoever would have thought that of a pig? 😉 Happy to hear about Daisy. How nice to have Gracie and her love of cooking–and your home-grown food to prepare. Best wishes for The Professor.

  4. The Professor did not look well l in the very first picture I saw of him. The eyes don’t look right. I am glad you will have the vet look at him, as this may be something more than just worms. He is not a happy kitty, is he. Ah…Tima the Terrible. Maybe just the exuberance of youth? Have you seen the Kune halters? They can be taught to walk with a halter and lead. Maybe she would like to walk around in town to keep her mind occupied, not to mention the stir she would cause. I discovered Kimchi about a month ago and now on my second batch…..we eat it with every meal now. So healthy to eat fermented veggies. Sauerkraut is next.

  5. A perfection addition to the Farmy… international cooking & dining. And Korean food is a perfect match to the home grown nutritious food philosophy. Tima is the kind of terrorist we can live with 🙂 The Prof, at least, has his ears and tail up, and is in good hands & paws.

  6. Korean food – what a treat! You are getting such a variety of input, which is quite wonderful. Tima the terrorist! – she’s getting quite a reputation. It must be so satisfying to get these big tasks done, and to know that Daisy is pregnant.

  7. The professor does look uncomfortable, hopefully he just needs some TLC.
Fencing is probably my least favorite job, you’re going along just fine with the auger or post pounder and wham! it’s a giant rock. They’re a big problem around here in the kettle moraine area. I think the only thing worse is removing old wire fence – bah.
Today we had a goat/pig altercation. I was doling out cucumber slices (sometimes they hide until they’re way to big) when Otis, the Nigerian Dwarf wether head butted Percy, (barely moved Percy), Percy took offense and lunged at Otis and chased him right out of the pen. No more cucumbers today for those naughty boys but it was a pretty hilarious site to see!
Grace of the lovely hands (she does have beautiful hands) looks to be a really good cook!

  8. Wonderful that Gracey is working out so well . . . . your dinner looks so appetizing and that ‘instant’ kimchi absolutely the real McCoy!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!
