Revving up

My last helper has arrived, she came after dark last night.  Her name is Jessica. It was quite funny really as it was the first time in ages that I have had to turn the lights on in the kitchen and dining area.  It was so DIM.  Do we really go to bed with the sun? I guess so. With bulbs blown and lamps mysteriously missing the house looked very mellow. Though surely it is too early to be having to turn lights on.  SURELY.

Here is Elise with Daisy. Giving you yet another idea of how truly Big this cow is.

Daisy is putting on weight and beginning to look quite healthy. Queenie and her calf across the way are much quieter now. And the calves are loving their new home under all the cool trees.  The two boys who live next to the barn, helped me put them in the barn for the night.  They knew what they were doing and will be very useful minders of the calves when I am not on site.

Elise got quite  surprise when Sheila lumbered out the gate and over to her to see whether she had a bucket. That is a BIG pig, she said backing up, raising her hands which had Sheila raising her head so she looked even bigger.

Beautiful Tima ran off with a sweet potato from the pantry AGAIN.  I have never seen a pig pick up her food and run away with it. And she looks so sweet in this shot.

Now I am going to rev up and attempt to have the whole farm put to bed before October. When I return from New Zealand in late October we will be right on the cusp of the cold weather. And I want to be ready. Luckily I have help.

Today I have to go to the Murder House to have three teeth fixed. I get a wee bit anxious at the dentists. I am not very good in small rooms with people sticking their fingers in my mouth.  And there may be a bit of pain afterwards. So it is possible that there will be no blog from me tomorrow.

I hope you all have a better day than I am going to.

Your friend on the farmy,

miss c

  1. I love all the pictures of the farmy animals! I am sorry you have to go to the “Murder House” and I understand your anxiety as I am dentally phobic also! Will be thinking positive thoughts for you today!

  2. Oh I totally get the dentist thing. Hang in there and take the meds they give you for the pain—–that is what will get you through. Hoping all goes well.

  3. Good luck today. I broke a senior tooth over the weekend and have to go tomorrow to probably be told I need another crown,my 7 th and I am also dental anxious. Crown 6 will be finished next week, so this will be my 3 rd visit in 6 weeks. Thinking calming thoughts for you.

  4. I have noticed the nights drawing in too, meaning that it’s necessary to turn on the lights. I agree, it does feel too early but it is well and truly dark by around 9.15 now.
Sorry to hear about the dentist. 😦 When I’m in the dentist’s chair, I have a habit of repeating times tables in my head to distract myself. It does help!

  5. Think of it as going to the vet’s. Painful, but necessary. You wouldn’t hesitate if it were one of the animals, now would you? Mind you, I’m a fine one to talk. I’ve been living with two suddenly sensitive teeth for a couple of months, and I just don’t want to go and get them checked…. And that Tima needs a nice wonky halo and some furry wings to complete her “I’m a sweet little angelic piggie” look.

  6. As I drove into work today the sun was rising, that is a first as the days grow shorter. And I too have a dentist appointment to fix two teeth though not until Friday am. WIll be thinking of you today!

  7. Is Boo’s leash broken/chewed off, looks like only a bit of it hanging! Have a wonderful day. Rain here in KC.

    • he wears that( chewed off) short leash all the time so I can grab him quickly and hold him still.. it is a very useful addition.. and yes it is the left overs of a chewed off leash.. c

  8. Have two phobias – spiders and dentist!! Would rather sleep in a room full of rats, mice and snakes then tackle either one of those!
Glad you are getting help before your trip – I am sure you are getting real excited at this stage. We don’t see our kids very often do we? Been two years since I’ve seen my Mum and grand kids. Still we talk a lot and swap pictures on face book.
Hope you have a painless day (rub whiskey on the pain and it soon goes a way!)

  9. While in the dentist’s chair try taking long deep breaths to calm your body and mind. Try to make the out-breaths longer than the in-breaths….maybe a 5 to 6 count in-breath and a 10 count out-breath, stopping for a couple of counts at the bottom of the exhale and top on the inhale. Let me know if it works. Sometimes it works for me. 🙂
