Fallen clothing

It is the time of year when I start the day wearing a few extra layers. nothing-much-003

No, you are not going to talk me into using the F word quite yet but there is a wee chill in the air when the dogs and I set out to walk both farms.

So I wear all these clothes to begin and through-out the day I lose them  – then later in the day I  retrace my steps as I retrace the work trying to find the layers to put back on again.

Almost all my farm clothes are hand me downs from Johns son or his neice.

This Carhart jacket  (which I did buy about four years ago) is looking pretty thin.  Just worn in really.

These pics were not set up. I took the camera with me while out looking for my clothes! Bet you do this too at this time of year!

Today I am catching up on barn work, house work, updating the cast of characters page and tomorrow, if John is not working, we will bring Aunty Del back here to be company for Queenie – the sheep are coming back as well. I thought I had a buyer for them though actually I don’t want to sell them until after the shearing in the spring. But if a good home comes up I will let them move sideways.    Marcel is jumping the fences over at the West barn so he will be more secure here while I am away.nothing-much-019

Your Marmalade.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy,

  1. That side of the house and porch looks beautiful with the greenish hydrangeas and owl etc. Love it. Marmie looks wonderful too. You can be so proud that you saved that little thing which grew into such a handsome boy. I also tend to live in discarded children’s clothing, mainly because they just get bored with something and it’s still really good, but I tend to call them hand-me-ups, since I’ve clearly got the seniority here…lol. 😀

  2. Still wearing shorts in central Texas, tho the mornings have been cooler. Marmalade is a sweetie pie which is what I also call my Molly the cat. She is rubbing her whiskers on the laptop lid at the moment…guess she wants everyone else to know it is hers! Mostly like she is wondering when I am going to make my smoothie so she can get the leavings.

Have a good day, C. Hugs

  3. Mornin’…headed to my birthplace, Vermont, in two more sleeps to spend time with my brother ! It is Autumn in all it’s glory there and I will need layers !! I sooo look forward to my visit. I hope we see more pics of Aunty Del as she grows !! I will be reading the blog wrapped around my morning tea from the chair by the woodstove !
Blessings to you and the fellowship…….and I am taking our book to share with my sisters……much older than me but they will love it……nanster

  4. Morning Celi! I wish it was cold enough for layers here. We are still in summer weather. Our nights have blessedly cooled off a little but I won’t trust it to stick until the middle of October; then I relax. Beautiful shot of the porch, and our Marmalade.

  5. Yup I do that here too although in my climate, if I don’t take the piece of clothing in for the night it’s bound to be soaking wet the next day! Speaking of rain, you can tell you’ve had quite a bit this summer by looking at the lush growth around the house and gardens…Something garden hoses and sprinklers just cannot achieve. Beautiful Marmy! Oh and beautiful summer squash…what is your favorite way to prepare them?
    You have a lovely week-end C.

  6. I love how lush and green everything is at the Farmy. After months of dry weather it finally rained, so I can say the “f” word now, although it feels more like winter coming with that cold north wind. Have had to have the heater on in the evenings for weeks now and today in the daytime. Good day to can up some beans and meat to put by. Marmalade is all grown up….beautiful. I was looking at her baby pictures when she was playing with Boo the other day. Always makes me smile. Now I am off to see you new page of characters. Your Carhart jacket looks a lot like my DH’s, only his is red. Isn’t it amazing how long those things last?

  7. It’s still early spring here, and at 5.30am there’s still a slight nip in the air and mist lying on the cane field over the road and the creek at the end of the road. By 8am, though, it’ll be warm enough to shed my hoodie and start sweating as I move furniture, unpack boxes and trot around my new house looking for things! Bet you’re counting the days to a nice warm spring visit in NZ…

  8. Sydney’s spring is the nicest for a while, pleasantly cool nights and warm days…. set to be 30c for the next couple. Very pollen-y though. I wonder how many of The Fellowship follow this fashion, of hand me ups/downs… I’m frequently borrowing (and not returning) items of the G.O.’s clothing, and I love my flannie shirts 🙂 Your Carhart jacket is just right – my MIL is regularly (and amusingly) horrified at the state of my well worn and/or borrowed clothes. Even gardening & cleaning, she is immaculately turned out. As for me, there are so many things I prefer to do than clothes shopping 🙂

  9. We had our first rain in nothern California, hallelujah! But it’s suppose to be in the nineties next week. I can’t wait for the stories from New Zealand.

  10. I am the bane of my three step daughters, I live in ratty jeans and free t shirts (all kinds of odd adverts on them!) and my Carhart is sadly frayed (but still good!). It’s been a beautiful week here, in the 70’s but cooling down at night so my John & I usually have to do a recovery mission in the evening for the layers we’ve shed. A week or so ago we actually had some scattered frost (sorry), some of the flowers got nipped so we must enjoy the good stuff while it lasts.

  11. I actually do the same thing, though here we are entering spring. It’s still cold in the mornings when I go out, and I try to cover up as much as possible to keep the sun off, but as I and the day warms up the layers come off and I’m not going to trudge back to the house to put them away there and then!

  12. I felt I was following you around as I looked at the photos of your clothes hanging on the trees. We are preparing some warm weather for you here in NZ; nice slow preparation, interspersed with rain showers. Preparing a warm welcome and a place for you to land and leave your cares behind you for a while. Hope your passport is at the ready this time!
