Lead in the skies

Still the heavy lid of the sky sits on my head.  One gloriously sunny day in weeks and that was the day before yesterday. But I have always loved a challenge. And challenges don’t always rush in sat atop handsome horses wearing chain mail and carrying swords. Sometimes a challenge is just the repetition of cloudy days. We can beat this.  First World Problems.

I could always Look through the Too Many chinks in the barn walls and wonder how long it can stand –  this old barn of mine. Best to focus on the weather.houdini-018

And it is warmer. We are above freezing these last few days.  And tomorrow it will rain.  Maybe this winter will not be that bad after all temperature-wise.

But when I take the shots so late in the day we get this.. blurs.. houdini-023

Though blurs tell a story too.

I am working fast trying to feed all the animals  and birds before the light has gone and if I get too late into the chook house they all drop from their perches like fluttering stones (boulders)  about my head,  best to feed them before they start to roost  – so if I start late I am in a hurry.

John bought me a new hose.. isn’t it .. UM.. bright.. ?

How is it that weather has taken such a hold on my emotions? This is a challenge. But I MUST remind myself not to leave the photographs of the day until the late afternoon. There is just no light. I need to take the Camera House out in the mornings.

If I were a chicken I would not be laying any damn eggs either! This is what happens if I leave water in the buckets over night. houdini-013

These ice buckets have been sitting here like this for days and days.

Good morning. Today we have visitors from the city! Thank Goodness! Hopefully they will dodge the freezing rain and get here in time for the chores!

Have a lovely day.

Your friend on the farmy

  1. Love the new lime green hose! That should bring a smile every day! And yes, I know the buckets of frozen ice that sit around forever, without the buckets they were frozen in….make me shiver to look at daily! We will hopefully get a ray or two of sunshine tomorrow….after more than a week of none! Definitely something to look forward to! Keeping my fingers crossed your visitors get there in time for chores! 🙂 And then a wonderful evening together! xo

    • they should get here about 4, just a it gets dark, but it is still and though deeply cloudy it is above freezing so maybe they can help.. we will see though i am fairly sure the kittens will keep the children amused.. c

  2. We have had quite a few dreary dusk filled days, but today the sun managed to peep through for a short while as I drove across the countryside. It was so low, blindingly low, making driving difficult. As we headed for the car for the homeward journey sharp sleet prickled our faces. May the luminous green hose, ease your workload and add a touch of brightness to each day. I too am counting off the days to the turn of the year.

  3. We’ve only had one beautifully sunny day of late too. I, too, tire of the endless gray. The only good thing is my chickens go to roost early then and I can close everything up and put everyone to bed at the afternoon feed instead of having to go back out later. That’s some consolation however small! I can’t fault the weather the last few days otherwise, not warm enough to make a mushy mess but not so cold you can’t do anything outside either. I guess I wouldn’t last long in the far north where the sun barely rises before it sets.

  4. Tending to cloudy & humid and warm dull here as reported by others in the southern hemisphere branch of The Fellowship! Redeeming chilly dull is a pot on the stove, a lit fire and maybe a glass of something nice. Hopefully your visitors like the hose will brighten things up 🙂

  5. Just have to laugh with Kate! Water vegies too late: Mildew! Yup!! Go out without torch and step on toads! Yup!! Go out past about 5 pm and get eaten alive by mosquitoes! Yup!! And they do carry Ross River virus and dengue fever even this far south! Yup!! Boo looks very handsome in a coat which obviously smells OK now! Yup!! And agree about the look of the lime green hose on a dull afternoon . . . . hope you had a great time with your Yuletide visitors . . .

  6. Oh yes, Eha, stay away from those mosquitoes………I’m not long recovering from dengue fever, caught in India though. First time I’ve ever been sick in all my 8 trips there. Definitely an illness to be avoided, I can see how people died/die from it. Nasty, nasty!

    • Had the Ross River virus whilst living in the Northern Rivers north of Byron: got off lightly [weeks not months or years], but not something I would wish on my worst enemy!!! Hope you will be increasingly better . . . fingers crossed!!

  7. where ‘north of Byron were you ‘………….I’m north of Byron, in Murwillumbah! Thankyou, yes, getting better, still get suddenly very tired and have to lay down no matter what else is going on…ooh and those aches and pains! Kate’s Mister called it ‘Bone Break fever’…yep, can see that. *Waves to Celi, thanks for letting us sit in your lounge and chat, would you mind just popping the kettle on for us, ta love * 🙂

    • For six years at a place called Ocean Shores 2 clicks north of Brunswick Heads – had a rather ‘famous’ ‘Pizza Hut’ house atop the hill – no, don’t frequent such: it just happened!!!!! Yep, dengue fever far worse than Ross River – tho’ feeling that you have glandular fever ain’t much fun either: shall keep my fingers crossed!!!!! Hope you like an occasional glass of wine: I have a cold glass of dry white next to me whilst typing 🙂 ! Shall we pop into the Lounge 🙂 ?

  8. Celi, you really need to proposition some nice electricians working somewhere in your community to trade a good meal and a place to rest their head in return for some electrical upgrades! Electric dog pans with homemade hoods are such a luxury in the chook house and make life so much easier. I am so thankful I have a hubby that will do my hook ups for me if I do the spading for the underground wires. Always time and money!

    • If you can find me an electrician who will work for a meal then him in! the house has been upgraded recently and I managed to kill lights in three different places, the house, the barn and the West barn.. so all unrelated I am afraid.. just my sticky power surge fingers!!.. c
