Driving for Pizza

Yesterday evening after a somewhat muddly day I drove over to a small American midwest country town, that has a real live Italian chef, to buy some good pizza for this New Zealand farmer to take back home to my prairie kitchen for dinner.  Some days it is such a relief to leave the dinner to someone else.

These were the skies I drove under.

Travelling East.

Then the return trip travelling West 30 minutes later (I treated myself to one very nice glass of wine sitting very happily all alone at the little bar – the Italian chef’s wife knows her wines!).

Just BooBoo and I and a big, big sky.

I hope you have a lovely day.

  1. We love living close to the ocean. We enjoy the mild winters. But, dear Heart, you gathered every memory of our glorious prairie skies and gifted them to me. For this and all the delightful mornings I spend on the farm I thank you from the bottom of my heart. XX X Virginia

  2. Much as I adore TonTon, I can’t think of a more agreeable old soul companion in the passenger seat than Boo.
And that blue of the sky in the last shot? Twilight? I stood looking out my front window last night waiting patiently for it, until my husband who was eating his salad alone in the kitchen finally came to fetch me asking “Is there something wrong?”
I watched the grey, pinks, aquas all dissolve to grey but missed the blue. Trying again tonight.

    Spectacular skies, Cecilia. Absolutely stunning.

  4. Oh my! Oh sky, so that’s where you’very been lately. Oh Boo, you lucky dog, you! So nice of you, Miss C., to share your ride home with us.

  5. I love driving the back roads with only the land and sky especially at sunset. Haven’t been able to do that for awhile. I’m glad you had a nice drive, good company (sweet Boo), a good pizza and glass of wine. All of us need something like that once in awhile, no demands, no agenda, just some quiet time alone. Have a lovely evening.

  6. This lovely fall posting makes me think of Tom Rush’ song “The Urge for Going”. Search on YouTube for it and be transported into the season through this evocative song in minor chords. This is a song I used to play and sing when I played the guitar. Much love, your Gayle

  7. Lovely!!! So Friday was still ‘pizza night’ but no one had to make it! The photos are glorious: I could never take such with the plethora of tall trees and undulant ground here . . . am scrolling back and forth . . . . just one thought since I do not know the US laws: in Europe one could have taken Boo in to sit next to you and the glass of wine . . . here it is a big ‘no-no’: if there also, hope he had a nice private quiet nap during . . . 🙂 !!

      • More’s the pity indeed! Guess he still felt he was keeping ‘watch’ over HIS lady 🙂 !! I just remember the multitudinous lunches and quite a few dinners in France, S Germany, Austria especially and Italy where, coming back from the loo, it was a continuous ‘step-over’ from anything from white snappy poodles to huge mountain dogs with lots of pats en route!! As long as they behave: I love it !!!!

  8. Fantastic skies! We don’t have take aways or deliveries very often but when we do (and I think next week we’ll be having a few as we now have no means of cooking as the kItchen fit starts tomorrow! ) we make sure it’s something worthwhile. We have an excellent, award winning fish and chips that also does pan fried fish, uses locally caught fish where possible and does specials like smoked haddock fishcakes or mussels….and all in recycled, bio degradable packaging…and delivered too 😀
